Ever Fallen in Love With Somone You Shouldn't Have Fallen in Love With?

So, I'm working on a little pro-UN article for K5 tomorrow. I figure that with some of the recent pissy-conservatives suddenly firing up on the board, they should be subject to a stress-test, to see how many are up there with trhurler and how many are just codepoets.

Then again, writing about the UN will only net the real crazies, but perhaps that's best. I do think that the US deserves some serious cred. Hell, they've done some serious help, all over the world. I think that too often the only focus they receive is from people who hate them because of their own misplaced paranoia.

Of course, I need to get back into K5 article-mode. It's been a while since I've written anything, and I've been really self-conscious recently. I want to write an article that really sparkles, that's easy to read, presents strong, logical arguments, and pisses the idiots off enough that they go total ape-shit.

I was originally going to do a little something for the Something Awful forums, probably about the fact that Africa and its culture was all that saved Europe from it's own cave-man barbarism, and that the current lack of aid to Africa is the ultimate act of ingratitude.

Unfortunantly, SA's on lock-down, and I've been consumed with other matters So, I haven't really had a chance to practice, and I'm afraid that I'll end up making some obvious mistake, or worse, just write a genuinly weak piece.

I guess I'll see tomorrow...

Cred? (none / 0) (#1)

One of the things that makes asking for credit for one's good deeds absurd is that it elimates any trace of virture from the deed. Granted, many of these yuppies don't include virtue among their values, but almost everyone else does. Hence, the pathetic claim that paying your taxes is equivalent to donating to charity is simply laughed off by normal humans the world over.

As selfless act is understood by non-sociopaths as one of the highest and most desirable uses to make of your earthly carcass, and the idea requires little or no defense. Those who cling to selfishness need no reply; only a goad to make them rave on and hang themselves with their own unconscionable rhetoric. You could also ask any one of them if they have any friends, and when was the last time they got laid. Case closed.

All you need to prove our need to work for the UN is to show that it does good, and therefore we must help it do good.

Can you even get on K5 any more? (none / 0) (#2)
by localroger on Wed Aug 1st, 2001 at 05:03:54 PM PST
Is it even still there? I haven't been able to get on for almost 14 days now -- DNS errors, even in the middle of the night. Can't figure out how to extend the timeout or if it's possible. I could get through through anonymizer.com for awhile, which is pretty useless for posting. Now even that hasn't been working. I've actually gone back to reading /. Now that's sad.

How your article is received may depend more on how many people from what areas are cut out of access than on how the general K5 contingent would react. At least until Rusty gets the new server online. (Have they tried kicking it?)

You really can't get through? Wow. I haven't had any problems. If the hostname isn't resolving, it's probably a problem on your end. I don't know if it will help, but the IP address seems to be 209.208.150.45.

But what do they have that we don't?

But what do they have that we don't?

Serious topics with adult conversations? Exceptions apply, of course, but at least most people there are interested in legitimate discussion.

serious, adult, and legitimate.

I see a lot of kick ass writing here, so maybe I am missing something.

I live in the good ole so called US and it bites royally. The problem is that our leaders are so into making friends with other countries that they have forgotten their own country pretty much.
"The Land of The Free" BULL SHIT! You are as free as your money can take you. We have hungry, homeless people that go unseen.American white and black people are minority now.It is harder for us to get jobs, keep them and to get paid what our work is worth. The price of freedom goes up every year and for somethings every six months. The police is a whole nother life.No matter what, they are right.
This is my opinion...

to have sex with everyone in the UN - yeesh... that'd put a lot of porn stars to shame if it could be done, though.

I would not exactly say, however, that the UN only does things to "please the US". That is, well, just pretty damn wrong. The two have butted heads many, many times. About the only time they don't is if other Security Council members happen to side with the US, then the UN and US get along just peachily. Else they give each other dirty looks... and you probably think I'm kidding...
