What the hell is "Yip"?

I was riding with my manager in a fellow bouncer's car a while back, and they were discussing this fairly attractive woman. The manager said he could have slept with her had he wanted, but didn't. The other bouncer asked why, and the manager replied "Well, she wanted to get a job, and I could have given her one, but she does a lot of 'yip' and I don't know if I want that in the bar."

I've been out of the drug culture way too long...

I've been downloading RedHat 7.2 all night long. I have about half an hour to go before both ISOs are downloaded. Then, I have to transfer them to a machine with a CD burner (which, thanks to our blazing network, will probably take about ten minutes) and I can burn them. I hope its much better than Mandrake 8.1. I can't get my zip drive, sound, or printing to work on this piece of shit.

It's snowing just a few miles north of us. It was sleeting for much of the night all around town. I have a feeling things are going to be rather slow today...

of hardware that should be avoided with Linux. Try using the floppy drive with tar and the -M flag.

Mandrake not only found my zip drive upon installation (like.. you have to have it plugged in when you install your OS...) but it created it's own mount point and had it all set and ready to go.

But then again, I am much smarter than you so it makes perfect sense that I should have no problems where most mortals are confused and bewildered.

Best wishes,

than everyone else here, why are you using an operating system like Linux? Is it because you can't keep a job, and can't afford anything other than an inferior shareware operating system? On install, Windows XP detected my zip drive, scanner, digital camera (just have them all plugged in). You're obviously think you're a l337 h4X0r because you run linus. And you run Mandrake, at that. Mandrake is known to be the most mickey-mouse version of linus, used by people who can't quite tear themselves away from the power and ease of Microsoft Windows.

Some people prefer that "inferior shareware operating system". I don't see why somebody else's choice of OS should bother you this much.

Mandrake is known to be the most mickey-mouse version of linus...
And Windows XP is known to be the most PlaySkool-esque version of Windows. What's your point? The concept here is commonly referred to as freedom. He can run whatever OS he wants on his hardware, be it Windows, Linux, Solaris, a *BSD, etc.

This is interesting. When a Linux distribution increases it's ease of use, thereby making it more accessible, you are still able to turn it around and use it as an argument against the use of Linux. That was pretty slick.

to feed a troll, but here goes...

I don't see why somebody else's choice of OS should bother you this much.

It doesn't. I merely find it amusing that Mr. McNamera would claim that "I'm probably twice as smart as you are", then reveal that he runs linux. Obviously, one (if not both) of his claims are false.

And Windows XP is known to be the most PlaySkool-esque version of Windows. What's your point?

What's yours? XP's ease of use and power is one of its greatest strengths.

He can run whatever OS he wants on his hardware, be it Windows, Linux, Solaris, a *BSD, etc.

Far be it from me to dispute that. But it amuses me to see someone who runs "Linux, Solaris, a *BSD" to claim to be "probably twice as smart as you are." Frankly, its a little insulting.

When a Linux distribution increases it's ease of use, thereby making it more accessible, you are still able to turn it around and use it as an argument against the use of Linux.

Again, it is simply interesting to see Mr. McNamera straddle the fence here - he really wants everything that Windows has to offer, but can't bring himself to go the whole way. So he uses Mandrake instead. He wants both worlds. He wants to be "l337," and still have a usable operating system.

Obviously, one (if not both) of his claims are false.
Smart people can use Linux. You admit that Linux is hard to use, therefore, it would take the effort of somebody somewhat intelligent to put it to good use. Also, since we obviously have different viewpoints, it would help if you would try to look beyond stereotypes when in discussion.

What's yours?
Flexibility and freedom. I'm able to do a lot more with Linux than Windows without the hassles of restrictive licensing agreements. The key word there being "I'm". Other people may have had different experiences, but I'm just talking based on my own experience.

But it amuses me to see someone who runs "Linux, Solaris, a *BSD" to claim to be "probably twice as smart as you are." Frankly, its a little insulting.
If claims of elitism get on your nerves, it doesn't seem Adequacy is the place for you.

...he really wants everything that Windows has to offer, but can't bring himself to go the whole way. So he uses Mandrake instead.
This is pure speculation. If you'd like to know why he uses Linux, ask him. Then we'll really know why. Otherwise, your conclusion on what he wants is seemingly just the result of your imagination (unless, of course, you have evidence that you haven't provided), so it really doesn't hold much weight in an argument.

YIP is an international consortium of people with very long handlebar moustaches. Your manager is justifiably concerned about hiring someone unable to control her urge to wax wandering hirsuite Texans without her hands. Who'll be mixing their drinks?

Well, at least mine is. It took me something like 20 minutes to copy a 100MB disk, while it only took about 5 on my old Mac, with my old 100MB SCSI Zip drive.

The data has been downloaded, the CDs have been created. Now, I go about the process if installing. Of course, since I'm installing linux, it could very well be a while before I get everything working, and am able to communicate with you all once again. Keep up the research on "yip", and I'll see you soon...

So, let me get this straight. The guy was in the car. You were in the car. The guy uses the word "yip." You don't know what it means. You don't ask.

God damn, you are a heaping pathetic mass of personal insecurities. Afraid to look ignorant in front of a guy who hired you as a bouncer? You're a fucking Onion headline. "Man Pretends To Know Meaning of Slang Term."

Then again, we already knew you were a heaping pathetic mass of personal insecurities. After all, you are male, and you read "feminist" literature willingly.
