I was watching the Alex Jones show the other day. If you don't know, Alex is considered to be the number one conspiracy theorist around today. He's pretty much the unofficial media head of the entire anti-UN, pro-Gun, liberty-fetish crowd. (All you Euro-types, I suggest you give his site a good reading. It's the core phobias driving the isolationist forces in the US, without the polish that a sane person would cover it with.)

Anyways, during the show, they had a clip of Alex standing on the lawn of the state Capitol, surrounded by his crowd of followers. Two people held out a UN flag, and Alex took a knife and slashed it in half, to roaring applause. Combine that with the first two paragraphs of this article, and I'm beginning to see an opportunity for something potent...

I think I'm going to start flying the UN flag.

Well, not nessicarily flying it, as I don't have a flag pole on which to do that, but I think I'm going to start incorporating the symbol into my style. Think of it as a kind of Idiot Repellant.

My entire life, I've been surrounded by the pro-gun lobby and their tactics of paranoia. From reading my father's copy of the NRA newsletter when I was in third grade to the rants getting posted this very day on K5, none if it's changed. The underlying theme is exactly the same: I want all the power and controll, having a gun will give that to me. Anyone who tries to take my guns away is attempting to turn me into a slave.

It's so damn cliche it's sickening. The worst part is, it's working. Right now there's a whole generation of kids, raised on the internet, getting the over-exposure of the freedom fascits (who, coincidentally, are so popular with teenagers because they have the same maturity levels).

Bah! Whatever. I'm tired and hungry and it's lunch time. Perhaps I'll have organized my thoughts and make some similar stands on K5, where I'll have to face the libertarian crowd head-on...

I thought it was "bare arms", guaranteeing us the right to wear short-sleeved shirts.

I am so dismayed.

I think you are really Liza Minelli. Am I wrong?

sorry.

I'd have been frightened if I were admired by Freddy Mercury my whole life, anyway.

No, Judy Garland was not my mother.

Isn't it true that Gene Simmons is Liza's manager, or at least was at one time?

Enslave the gun nuts? Hmm... (none / 0) (#4)

Never thought of that. Would they make good slaves? They seem to have a strong passive-aggressive streak in them, which translates to submission when they are put at a disadvantage. I see merit in this idea, especially since I don't have much problem with guns. Guns have their place and I even don't have a lot of problem with allowing guns. The philosophical principles behind allowing guns have some merit.

The whole thing just falls apart when you put guns and gun nuts together. The problem is them, the gun nuts, not the guns themselves. They are just the last people on earth who should be allowed to have a gun. I'd let Ralph Nader have a gun, or Woody Allen, or Stephen J. Gould. I think Pope John Paul II could be trusted with firearms too. But freakin Ted Nugent! Who let that freak have a gun? Or G. Gordon Liddy? That guy is flat out bad news and everyone knows it. He's a convicted felon right? So he can't be armed? I hope he isn't. None of those coked up actors like Christian Slater or Keanu Reeves should have so much as a butter knife, let alone a gun. Or anybody remotely associated with the Church of the Subgenius. Or the Chruch of Scientology. Well, any church, come to think of it. No gun for the Pope, on second thought.

But people who don't want guns should be allowed to have them, with few restrictions.

I don't think the gun nuts will stand for it one minute, and so enslaving them may be the only option. Once beaten into submission (see bc's current story) they should be quite easy to handle. And they would be happy. I mean, farm animals are happy too, right? Why wouldn't they be just as content?

Would "No gun for the Pope" make a good sig or bumper sticker?
