Papa Legba (none / 0) (#1)

You'll be, hmm-hmm-hmm-hmm, magnet for money
You'll be, mm-mm-mm-mm, magnet for love
You'll feel, hmm, light in your body
Now I'm gonna say, gonna say these words:

Rompiendo la monotonia del tiempo
Rompiendo la monotonia del tiempo

It might hmm-mmm-mm-mm...It might rain money
It might hm-hi-hi-hi...It might rain fire
Now I'm gonna call,
Gonna call on Legba.
Get yourself a sign
Get your love and desire.

Rompiendo la monotonia del tiempo
Rompiendo la monotonia del tiempou
Papa Legba,
Come and open the gate.
Papa Legba,
To the city of camps.
Now, we're your children
Come and ride your horse
In the night
In the night
Come and ride your horse

There is a queen
Of six sevens and nines
Dust in your garden
Poison in your mind
There is a king
That will steal your soul
Din't let him catch you,
Don't let him get control.

Rompiendo la monotonia del tiempo
Rompiendo la monotonia del tiempo

Papa Legba,
Come and open the gate
Papa Legba,
To the city of camps
Now, we're your children
Come and ride your horse

In the night
In the night, come and ride your horse
In the night
In the night, come and ride your horse
In the night
In the night, come and ride your horse

Unh!

Papa loves mambo!
Mamma loves mambo!
Look at `em sway with it,
Gettin' so gay with it,
Shoutin' Ol with it, Wow!

Unh!

Papa loves mambo! ( Papa loves mambo! )
Mamma loves mambo! ( Mamma loves mambo! )
Papa does great with it,
Swings like a gate with it,
He loses weight with it, Now!

He goes to, she goes fro,
He goes fast, she goes slow,
He goes left, an' she goes right!

Papa's lookin' for Mamma,
But Mamma is nowhere in sight!

Unh!

Papa loves mambo!
Mamma loves mambo!
Havin' their fling again,
Younger than spring again,
Feelin' that zing again, Wow!

Unh!

Papa loves mambo! ( Papa loves mambo! )
Mamma loves mambo! ( Mamma loves mambo! )
Don't play the rumba an' don't play the samba,
`Cause Papa loves mambo, tonight!

Unh!

Papa loves mambo!
Mamma loves mambo!

< instrumental break >

Papa loves mambo!
Mamma loves mambo!

He goes to, she goes fro',
He goes fast, she goes slow,
He goes left, an' she goes right!

Question to Voodoo experts? (none / 0) (#3)
by Anonymous Reader on Mon Mar 25th, 2002 at 01:25:17 PM PST
What was the one in Live and Let Die, the blaxploitation Bond film. He was pretty cool looking with the top hat and the skull paint on his face.

Baron Samedi (none / 0) (#4)
by iat on Mon Mar 25th, 2002 at 03:31:24 PM PST
The one in "Live and Let Die" with a top hat and a skull painted on his face was in fact an actor. However, his costume was based upon Baron Samedi, who is regarded as the ruler of the dead.

A question for any Voodoo Priests, like em (5.00 / 1) (#8)
by bc on Tue Mar 26th, 2002 at 11:06:41 AM PST
Who happen to be passing by.

I haven't voted on this poll yet, because I am unsure if voting for any particular option will somehow bring the capricious deity into my life. Does marking a checkbox count as an invitation?

I know em is a Voodoo priest who understands the Arts well, and would be interested to hear his opinion before casting my vote. I don't want to find myself cursed by ignoring Voodoo protocol I am unaware of. A Wiccan girl I heard of went on holiday to Haiti and decided to say "Gosh, Baron Sandi is a splendid chap" once. She died of brain hemmorages a few days later.

I don't want the same to happen to me :-\

♥, bc.

Unless you wish for Legba (5.00 / 1) (#9)

to come down from the crossroads and ride your ass, I recommend voting for Ezili Freda Dahomey (also known as "Erzulie").

Erzulie is not merely a loa of elemental forces, but instead the loa of ideal dreams, hopes and aspirations. It is said that she has no specific function but, unlike many other loa, is approachable in a confidential manner (she is a keeper of secrets, a bearer of intuitions and powerful through tangential influence).

Her sacred days are Tuesday and Thursday. She wears red and blue dresses and jewels. As soon as someone is possessed by her, they are washed and dressed in finery. She is a high class, "high-yellow" mulatto who walks with a saucy sway to her hips. She is pleasure-loving, extravagant and likes to give and receive gifts. She fond of men but mistrusts women as rivals. She is a master of coquetry. She loves to dance and is the most graceful of all the loa. She is quite special to men and will dance with them, kiss and caress them, even in an often embarrassing manner.

Erzulie wears three wedding bands since she has been (or is) wedded to Dumballah, Ogoun and Agwe. She has often flirted with Zaka, but she has completely dismissed his more coarse brother Ghede as unworthy. Erzulie is always in charge and may take any servitor present as her lover for the day if she chooses.

Depite her flirtations and loving ways, Erzulie is seen as a "virgin"; she is the complete converse/opposite of the crude sexuality of Papa Ghede. While she is anything but virginal in the physical sense, her pureness stems from the belief that her love transcends the earth as a love derived from higher forces. She is also loosely associated with the Blessed Virgin Mary and her symbol is the heart, usually one broken with an arrow in much the same way as a dominant Catholic portrait of Mary has it.

All things considered, I do believe that she's perfect for you, bc.

Powerful stuff, that old-time voodoo... (none / 0) (#10)

Zibbida Zabbida Zalhody-hody Zumma Zoo (a.k.a. You're Mine)

Last time you were here, over at my house
I gave you a haircut, peeled your sunburned back
Clipped your nails, put 'em all in my mojo sack

Stir it up in a brew, those little bits of you
Gonna cast a spell, thick with sweet perfume
Ain't no use runnin', gonna dust yer broom

And now you're mine
You're mine, mon cher, you're mine
You're mine
So fine, won't share, you're mine!
You're mine, mine, mine - 'til the end of time...*

While there is something to be said for such a straightforward approach, I can't believe that it's ever been so easy, even for devout believers.

Still wantin' me to give your hair a little trim, eh, Shoeboy, ma cher? (Can't you just picture the catlike wicked grin...?)
