1987 Plymouth Mitsubishi (5.00 / 1) (#1)
by Adam Rightmann on Tue Nov 6th, 2001 at 11:20:29 AM PST
Almost 5 years ago, I got my first deer (a fat doe) with my 1987 Colt Hatchback. The deer died instantly, and the Colt surfed right over her, only suffering a cracked grill. Ah, that was an engineer's car.

Most of my cousins get their first deer at about 12 or 13, but they live in the deep woods of Pennsylvania, where the first day of deer season (Rifle) is a de-facto school holiday.

Why hunters are evil (3.66 / 3) (#2)
by zikzak on Tue Nov 6th, 2001 at 11:20:54 AM PST
  • They make too much noise at 4AM and wake me up
  • Their bright orange vests are blinding
  • They take up 1/2 the garage cleaning their kill
  • They never let me shoot at neighbor kids with their rifles
  • They hide the gunpowder they use to reload shells, too
  • They act like I'm not entitled to the venison because I didn't do anything to deserve it
  • They bitch about me making too much noise at 1AM when they're trying to sleep

  • Clearly we need to ban hunting.

    All of them (5.00 / 2) (#3)
by Right Hand Man on Tue Nov 6th, 2001 at 12:02:36 PM PST
I have probably killed more deer than most of you have eaten peas. I've used all of the implements described above other than the Claymore (although I have used various types of traps). Also killed them with a recurve bow, a crossbow, and a tractor while bushhogging. Ted Nugent has nothing on me.

I'd like to extend a peace offering to all of the PETA folks out there. For every vote that the PETA option gets, I'll kill a deer on my farm. The Amish around here need quite a bit of venison to get them through the winter so vote away, I'm sure they will be grateful.

Surely the Amish can hunt? (none / 0) (#4)
by Adam Rightmann on Tue Nov 6th, 2001 at 12:05:34 PM PST
Many of them have telephones, they butcher steers, hogs and chickens, why wouldn't they be able to hunt?

    They do (5.00 / 1) (#5)
by Right Hand Man on Tue Nov 6th, 2001 at 12:46:14 PM PST
They hunt quite a bit, although a large part of deer season coincides with the harvest so they don't have too much free time. I tend to trade with them often (they build excellent barns) and they seem to like to swap for venison. Maybe they are just gluttonous?

So are you in Pennsylvania, Ohio or New York? (none / 0) (#6)
by Adam Rightmann on Tue Nov 6th, 2001 at 12:53:21 PM PST
I'm assuming you're in one of those places, as they are Amish hotbeds.

    Pennsylvania it is.<p>
It appears that I have my work cut out for me, people must be voting up the PETA option just to get me to kill more deer. You people are bloodthirsty, but I will do my best to oblige.

You do know they advocate killing whales so "less fish have to die"? Guess that whole "Save the Whales" thing was a big joke.

What the left hand is doing? Should you not also promise to raise one fawns that you slaughter in the name of an online pole? Surley you understand that you are not the executor of God's will, and since those are his deer, should you not protect his creation?

Drink a cup of blood for me. Maybe you can get some tick bites too!

this comment is pretty stupid, because as a good Christian you are kind of encouraged to eat meat. It certainly wasn't an issue for St. Paul.

The deer are doing a fine job of rearing fawns without any help from me, other than a few food plots I put out to get them through the winter.

Surley you understand that you are not the executor of God's will, and since those are his deer, should you not protect his creation?

Read the bible, he essentially gave those deer to us.

Maybe you can get some tick bites too!

It is too cold for tick bites. You are a typical left-leaning animal rights supporter. You think that the natural world is like a disney movie, where rabbits and squirrels talk with one another, ticks bite human beings as retribution for their slain deer brothers. Of course reality stands in stark contrast your city-boy imagery.

as they are the closest to my reason for not hunting. Mainly that it is non value added and removes money from the global economy, thus lowering everybody's standard of living. Also it has a large barrier to entry (as opposed to buying dinner from one of Americas corporate bastions of freedom, like Taco Bell).

    I love animals (5.00 / 1) (#9)
by Anonymous Reader on Thu Nov 8th, 2001 at 02:05:30 AM PST

Especially when they are minced into nice little pieces. I think meat tastes best when it's sheared into thing strips. To be honest, I've never used a claymore mine on a dear but I would imagine that it would save quite a bit of trouble mincing and grinding the animals flesh, although recovery could become a problem. But nonetheless I emphatically and enthusiastically vote for sheared animal, especially in a fine gravy and a touch of breading.

Deer regularly fling themselves at my car on the way to work so I don't really have a lot of choice in the matter.
