 Semi-yummy Food

Well, tonight I went out with my folks to a restaurant. We do this *every* friday, and I'm not one to complain about it, since they usually take me to decent places... Anyhow, tonight we went to a joint called Famous Sam's. It's a sports bar/restaurant dealie, and the atmosphere *seemed* friendly enough; the food was ok (we had wings and their fish fry, which was extraoardinarily greasy), and our waitress wouldn't stop staring at me for some reason (I think she wanted my nuts). I ordered the fish fry, and my mum and dad got some buffalo wings. It was all fine except for the fact that I recieved two small pieces of fish and when I asked for new ones, it took them 35 minutes to prepare 'em. Talk about frustrating. By the time my food came out, I was no longer hungry, which completely defeated the purpose of bringing out the food...and if I had my way, our waitress' tip would've been reduced by 4% just out of spite. Bah...

And I get to see Lexx tonight. Yeehaw!

That show has been the most impressive, IMO, over the years. It's got the perfect mix of cheesy acting, creative scenery, rather imaginative plots and expendable extras. :) I mean, there's really very little, I think, that anyone can do to improve upon it...it's the one show I always try to watch every week. I like the concept of having a small crew of 3 'people' who are so wildly different from each other, each being deficient in certain things (Kai being dead, Stanley being a fool/coward, and Xev being a whore), while others in the group seem to more than make up for those deficiencies. It seems to make the show seem a bit more interesting than it might be if everyone in it was as normal as, say, you or me (in fact, a show about me would probably put everyone to sleep..heh). I like it much more than that Farscape show (which was really, really cruddy early on, unlike Lexx, which had some really awesome pilots), and all the other crappy shows they have on the SciFi channel (excepting Quantum Leap, which is OK). And that's enough rambling for now, I suppose...don't flame me for it, please ;)

what is this kuro5hin.org site?

it seems to be kinda like this one (adaquacy), except the diaries seem to have more flamebait (coughtrollscough) and the articles seem to be oriented more towards bizarre conspiracy theories (unlike ours, which are always factual and accurate).

I personally like adequacy a bit more... of course, I probably wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Craig's incessant promoting of Adequacy on LNO (and his infamous stone chicks). Then again, I probably also wouldn't have heard about kuro5hin if I hadn't come here, so it's a double-edged sword (I promise I won't defect to their side...honest).

Kuro5hin is a Web site that is based on Adequacy's discussion engine (known as Scoop.) It is predominantly habitated by flamers and trolls who are out to cause nothing but trouble. You would do well to avoid that site at all costs.

The original scoop site (none / 0) (#8)

K5 was the first website to use Scoop. If you get an account you can submit & vote on stories, there are no real editors, although if you post a story and then make an editorial post requesting changes whilst the story is in the queue, someone with administrative priviledges will useually come along and fix it up for you.

Give it a try, you might find it fun. Try not to be turned off by the groupthink that goes on there. More points of view is always a good thing...

geocities sucks ass... (none / 0) (#4)
by Frithiof on Sat Oct 13th, 2001 at 08:48:41 AM PST
I've been trying for the last 15 minutes to FTP my website and a couple images to their server and I keep getting rejected, even though I'm doing everything that I'm supposed to in order to log in [to geocities]. I *know* how this is supposed to work...I give them my user name, my password, I connect to their server, I upload my files, end of story. Not quite.

I hate them, I hate them, I hate them.

Does anyone know of a free webhosting service where I can have 1-5 free megs? I just want to create a small, tiny, pathetic little homepage to direct people to so they can read about me (I'll even link back to adequacy, I promise).

Sorry, Geocities truly does suck. I haven't used free hosting in a loooong time, but your best bet is probably to find out if your ISP offers webspace. Most of them do. I know mine gives me 300MB disk space that I don't use, because I use a seperate hosting company.

that offers 100 megs for free.

God knows that I'll never be able to use up all that space with anything but porn and weird Lacey Chabert fanfic.

I have 200MB (none / 0) (#7)
by jin wicked on Sat Oct 13th, 2001 at 10:05:05 PM PST
And my site, along with all the files in /temp/ and the subsites in /diversions/ take up ~35MB total. On the other hand, all my stuff eats up a very large amount of transfer... I have a 5GB a month limit on my site but I regularly go way beyond that. Luckily my host likes my work and doesn't yell at me too much about it.
