 Silencing The Aryan King

The "Aryan King" account no longer has the ability to post comments or diaries. Why? Because it failed the 6 part troll test.

The 6 part troll test is a set of six simple criteria that an account or persona must pass to avoid being deleted here at Adequacy.org. It tests for redeeming value.

1. Is it ammusing? We'll let a lot slide if it makes us chuckle. Unfortunately the Aryan King account was a crude and obvious troll. There was no wit or cleverness to it.

2. Is it controversial? We at adequacy don't shy away from controversy and don't hide controversial comments. But Aryan King wasn't controversial. Few people bothered to attack his position and even fewer bothered to defend it. Most Adequacy.org readers just ignored him.

3. Is it sincere? We'll give more slack to people who really believe stupid things than people who pretend to believe stupid things in order to cause trouble.

4. Is it daring? Does the author show courage by taking this position? Ridiculing minorities on a site that (thanks to the k5 refugees) has a predominately rich white male adolescent audience isn't courageous. It's like mocking the Amish on TV. They're not going to see it and even if they do, they're pacifists. Anonymous racial invective is the same way. Be a man, put your home address and phone number on it.

5. Did it take effort? If it's just throwaway comments without any sign of research or careful composition, it's much easier to justify deleting.

6. Is it worthless shit that doesn't belong on this site? It was.

Although I hate you for reasons not even I know, I actually agree with you on this. The anti-Semite has been done to death, as has the extremely conservative Christian (Adam Rightman) and the bitter and traumatized anti-Christian atheists (the morons).

I kind of like it when the false Christians bicker with each other over rattlesnakes or the True Pope.

The 25 Kilobyte VBScript known as "Adam Rightmann" isn't a Christian, it is a Catholic.

I need to sign an NDA before reading the details of Adequacy.org editoral procedures, right? I wouldn't want to be considered a hacker like those criminals stealing HTPP respones, tellnet logs, and other Adequacy.org proprietary information.

So much for Adequacy not censoring. And I didn't say anything inappropriate either. I even said positive things about this site and its authors.

Please give back my comment.

And I didn't say anything inappropriate either.

  • You claim "that the entire purpose of this site is trolling"
  • You baselessly claim that Adam Rightmann is a troll. This is blatantly untrue. Unlike some people, Adam is the true Christian and would never lie.
Nethertheless... I have rated your comment with a "1" and brought it back into view. Perhaps you should read what Peter has to say in reply to you.

I'd love to do so, however the responses are gone as well.

If someone wishes to forward it to my email address, that would be appreciated.

Logged in using this account, I can't see it.

The behavior I expect is comments rated less than one should be hidden from non-trusted users and anonymous readers. Maybe it's a but, maybe it's a cookie issue. I'd examine the Adequacy cookies set on my machine, but that would be a DMCA and TOS violation, and I really don't feel like having the FBI knocking down my door right now.

The terrible, fearsome Crocostimpy!

Same here. Once I logged out, I could see everything.

There must be a shape-shifter messing with the site. Please be careful; watch out for them, they are insidious.

The Anonymous Reader account became trusted. This means that he hasn't been rated down enough by the users of the site, and could see 0'ed comments where norml users could not.

by gNinja on Wed Apr 10th, 2002 at 04:54:25 PM PST
trusted...

I think it's because I moderated a NAWL comment down to zero where it wasn't appropriate. The comment itself was nothing important, but I could see that he was a crazed person who should be banned.

It was a judgement call on my part and I can live with the consequences.

Sometimes mediocre comments get deleted along with the outright bad ones, but that's an acceptable price to pay to maintain the high level of discourse.

You won't have lost trusted user status for moderating a NAWL comment to zero, this isn't Slashdot. It's more likely that you haven't posted enough higly rated comments lately, so your trusted user status has expired, or that your most recent comments didn't get highly rated.

I could see that he was a crazed person who should be banned.

I don't think anyone will disagree with that statement.

Dear Mr. Peter Johnson:
Thank you kindly for informing me, a recent subscriber/reader/whatever I am, on the exact criteria for trolling. I have a suggestion for not confusing future newbies: post a link to the six criteria for trolling on the comments page, so fewer trolls will have to be deleted.
