I am what Jon Katz terms a "geek." I'm alright with that. Hell, I actually like Jon Katz.

And somehow, I manage to have a petite, curvy redhead appearing to enjoy spending time with me. Am I not really a geek after all? Have the laws of the universe been suspended?

Discuss.

You are obviously full of the Holy Spirit during this Christmas season as speaking in tongues is the sign of a true believer.

Please, when undressing this lass, make sure to check the tag on her back. She better not be one of my ladies, or you will hear from my lawyers.

Merry Christmas,

Ah, Shoeboy.

Still trying to decide if the world is a better place because our paths have crossed, or is it instead that it's a better place in spite of recent events because I'm around?

Your "geekness" was well-entrenched prior to our having met, as was your burgeoning conscience/consciousness. I am also on record as having recognized that "geeks" can be sexy (but only when they don't use it as an excuse to be nothing more than drones). For what it's worth, ya got the goods in spades, ma cher.

Remember, also, that they're not called "growing pains" for nothing, and they don't stop once physical maturity has been achieved. Truth be known, you're so much more than any one hastily-applied label or descriptive adjective could ever encompass, and that a life well-lived truly begins when you look past your borders -- that, above all else, is what I hope you remember from this.

The expression on your face while staring at a pile of Legos before you, lost in your own imagination, defies description... All I can say is that it was, for me, nothing less than another reason to love you even more. Simply put, you amaze me.

With regard to Dr. Cortez's admonishment, I gave up typing for a living a years ago and am owned by no one. Here's hoping that his "ladies" realize that they, too, have the ability to change their lives in similar fashion, as well as the responsibility for refining any such changes if they don't quite end up where they thought they would.

As for RobotSlave's curious dialect, I recognize some Germanic influences... I'll leave it to his discretion as to whether or not he is moved to elaborate.

I have a life-long history of siding with the "underdog" in almost all situations. Hang in there; you're worth it. Need I say more?

I'm afraid I listened to the squirrel's reworking of dark side of the moon 3 times all the way through today. This wasn't something I did on my own. This bearrs the unmistakeable imprint of your angel wings.

I'm delighted by this butchery of an album that was pretentious, puerile and unlistenable (although not as bad as the wall.)

Don't worry, I'm not going to ask you to get a room. I will say, however, that self-affirming panegyrics to one's lover must, in order to be adequate, be written in really first-class poetry. Perhaps Mr Tkatchev would give you a hand.

Anyway, having had my heart once again extracted, stuffed with C4, and blasted into flinders, I wish you the best in your loving relationship.

Regards,
Nathan

So if I want to beat my chest and spill the details about my latest "love gone wrong", Adequacy is the place; however, if I wish to quietly acknowledge something that's going well and celebrate someone who's extraordinary (other than Ms. Portman), I'm not playing the game correctly? I'll not deny that poetry is a powerful vehicle for expression, but, alas, my best musings of that sort are more spontaneous and not anything I'd offer up for public consumption. However, the fact is that Shoeboy is more suited to inspiring limericks, truth be known (and I have little doubt that he'll interpret that correctly as a compliment).

No offense intended, certainly, and none taken, but for you, Nathan, all I can offer is this: "PPPPHHHHHHHHTTTTTHHHH! " (a royal raspberry in the finest "Bloom County" tradition).

Besides, with my track record in regard to romantic liaisons, I'm the first to realize that nothing lasts forever... which is all the more reason to enjoy the good stuff to the fullest extent. Keep the faith, buddy -- you never know when you'll next be amazed and delighted.

if I wish to quietly acknowledge something that's going well...

I don't think there's anything quiet about it. It's one thing to post a message to Adequacy at large, and it's another thing to make out in public.

And if you must, it'd be nice if it weren't so damn cutesy-poo.

Best,
Nathan

Moot Points (plus an Adequacy exclusive!) (none / 0) (#12)

My response, in no particular order:

If something posted in this realm starts with "Ah, Chloedancer...", I believe it's reasonable and permissible that I respond as I see fit. If it troubles you so, please feel free to refrain from reading my comments in response.

"Quiet" is not the same thing as "private." Trust me when I advise you not to tempt me to demonstrate the difference. ;) Admonishments in the name of privacy also imply shame; let's just cut to the chase and all agree that, oops, I have none! (Shocked? I didn't think so. Appalled? Likely. Get over it.)

...it's another thing to make out in public: I view my comments as being rather tame, when compared to osm's ongoing soft-core porn revelry with regard to the fabled Ms. Portman and other such fantasy liaisons. What, exactly, are you referring to when you describe my comments in this manner? If what I've posted in this specific diary entry strikes you as "making out," might I respectfully suggest that you tear yourself away from your keyboard and monitor and reacquaint yourself with the fine art of touching someone else again? If you should manage to do so, I'd be pleased to wave goodbye and wish you a hearty "Godspeed!" in this quest.

...it'd be nice if it weren't so damn cutesy-poo: I am what I am; call it whatever you wish. Pity I don't care enough about the request to capitulate; keep bitching and I'll be certain to twist the knife for maximum effect. I spent five long years in New Orleans; suffice it to say that I've learned how to induce insulin shock when necessary -- don't get me started, really.

RE: Adequacy and controversy... Between Shoeboy's familial unit twisting their collective undies in a knot about his love life and my workplace becoming a minefield of politics because of our after-hours relationship, the past few weeks have been particularly hellish and I can think of no better place than this hallowed venue to throw a little gasoline on the bonfire, all things considered. Truth be known, any censure experienced here is actually laughable when compared to the F2F world these days. Here I will say what I wish, if only because that option is severely limited elsewhere.

And now it's time for the much-anticipated Adequacy exclusive, unveiled for the first time to the world at large:

I AM IN LOVE WITH SHOEBOY and I'm proud to acknowledge it. Deal with it. PPPPPHHHHHHHTTTTTTTHHHHHHHH!

Ah, Chloedancer,

I'm trying to deal with it, but I'm not sure how. Normally people feel awe, envy, worshipfulness and gnawing feelings of inadequacy in my presence, but love? That's a new one.

How exactly am I supposed to deal with it.

I love you to by the way, so deal with that.

I'm trying to deal with it, but I'm not sure how.

You're doing just fine, ma cher, really. (While I can't tell you precisely how to deal with it, at least I'm willing to let you know when you get it right.)

That's a new one.

Humbling, isn't it?

With regard to your counter-proclamation, my modus operandi is as follows: We're just a man and a woman enjoying each other's company and it really can be just as simple as that. Relax and enjoy the ride, 'kay?

P.S. -- I love the fact that your attention to detail when posting/intimidating command of the English language, punctuation and general mastery of all-things-grammatical seem to fly right out the window whenever you're flustered... Gotcha yet again!

Dear Mr. chloedancer,

I ask that you please take your public affection elsewhere. Adequacy is a forum for controversial discussion, not a singles club. I mean no disrespect, but after being around pimply-faced teenagers making out in the school at which I teach, I have no stomach for the sexually explicit act that you young people refer to as cybering. I have learned to keep my relationships in the privacy of my own room, away from parents, jealous boyfriends, and the public in general. I politely ask you to do the same. Thank you.
Guardian angel, heavenly friend, walk with me 'til the journey's end.
