Arrested Development (Part One): Saving the Human Race

 Author:  Topic:  Posted:

 Comments:
While technological progress continues at an exponentially increasing rate, the human species is evolving at a much slower pace. Mankind is in danger of being hoist by its own petard - our technological developments will overtake us and turn the human race into nothing more than a redundant anachronism. This two part series examines what action may be taken to prevent the demise of humanity.

The first part of the series investigates the worrying trend of "reverse evolution", in which the pressures of modern society are causing mankind to evolve into a lesser species.

Statistics show that an increasing number of married couples in the western world are choosing not to have children. The legacy of the feminist movement has been to allow women to compete on equal terms with their male counterparts in the workplace and the most talented and intelligent females are deciding to succeed in their careers at the expense of procreation.

Meanwhile, women without the natural ability to lead successful careers view childbirth as an effortless route to a comfortable lifestyle. These women choose to give birth to several children, often to different fathers, while being subsidised by the welfare state.

This leads to a dilemma. Humanity's great achievements are the result of many millions of years of evolution, yet mankind has now evolved to a point where it is being threatened by an inversion of the process of natural selection. While the elite of the human race chose to shun the continuation of their genetic line in favour of the false idol of career development, the gene pool is being flooded by the offspring of humanity's most worthless examples.

If allowed to continue unchecked, this situation can only lead to a reversal of the evolutionary process in which each new generation of humanity is successively weaker than its predecessors. The early signs of Armageddon are already evident. The sharp rise in the number of weak, sickly children born with heriditary diseases such as asthma, attention deficit disorder and ginger hair, together with an alarming increase in the number of young offenders are testament to the reality of this problem. Clearly, decisive action is required before mankind becomes extinct.

Fortunately, the scientific breakthrough of in vitro fertilisation may prove to be the saviour in mankind's hour of need. The proposed solution to humanity's plight is both obvious and simple.

Three Point Plan for the Preservation of the Human Race

  • Firstly, sperm and ova must be harvested from the finest examples of the human species - individuals who have excelled in science, business, sports or the arts.

  • Meanwhile, compulsory sterilisation must be performed upon those people who do not qualify as exceptional members of the human race in order to prevent further irreversible dilution of the gene pool.

  • Finally, the sterilised women should be impregnated with embryos produced from the donor sperm and ova. While humanity's elite are now freed from the obligations of parenthood and are able to devote their full attention to enriching society, these surrogate mothers get the privilege of contributing to society by raising the next generation of our race. This is clearly a win-win situation.
At first glance, this proposal may seem extreme. However, a similar society exists in nature and has proven to be successful over millions of years. The society in question is, of course, that of the honey bee. In this social hierarchy, only an elite minority are capable of reproduction and the vast majority of bees, the 'worker' bees, are infertile. While the fertile 'drone' and 'queen' bees shoulder the heavy burden of perpetuating the species, the common worker bees are free to enjoy the simple delights of manual labour. Clearly, there are many lessons that human society may learn from that of the humble bumblebee.

Preventing the demise of the human race is obviously a matter of great urgency. However, it is not too late to avert the impending catastrophe. Some enlightened governments are already taking measures to safeguard their nation's gene pool. It is time for the rest of the world's governments to follow suit, to protect the future of the human race.

Part two of this series will investigate how recent advances in biological and electronic technology may be harnessed to accelerate the development of the human species.

It sickens me to think that the author could seriously promote this twisted agenda. Have we learned nothing from history? It is an outrageous attack on the most fundamental basis of human rights. The proposition for creating an elite class of citizen is disgusting and dangerous. How could anyone allow our superchildren to be raised by the cretinous scum of our race?

Making sure the future generations start out with superior genes is an obvious necessity. However, it would be beyond irresponsible to leave the up-bringing of these children to degenerate wastes of human souls. The author's atrocious suggestion to leave the cretins alive, let alone raise our children, is unbelievable. If I weren't aware of Adequacy's admirable reputation I would call Mr. IAT a troll.

The best solution to our regressing evolution is to euthanize the worthless members of our society. This not only prevents their inferior genetics from spreading but also negates any possibility of cultural contamination. Our elite children can be raised under proper social and scientific care provided by professionals.

What makes you think he is? It sounds to me like he was watching The Matrix one time too many and got a cool idea for an Adequacy.org article.

I just realized that comments started at #7 on this article. It wasn't up long enough for six other people to have posted and been deleted. That's amusing. A random number generator for the first article?

In order to ensure that adequacy.org continues to provide high quality articles, there is a submission queue where articles percolate for a while. In the queue editors can post editorial comments criticising spelling, grammar, and such mundanities.

Because there are already 6 of these editorial comments made in this article, all made when the article was at a young and raw stage, comments 1-6 are used up. These comments get deleted when the article goes front page, but we should really fix the comment numbering issue to make this less confusing for people.

Thank You.

No, I wasn't watching the Matrix. It was genuinely inspired by statistics showing that women are choosing careers in preference to starting a family. The article simply examines the consequences of this trend, which are already becoming apparent in the UK, and proposes a possible solution to the problem.

You will also notice that comments on most articles don't start at #1. This isn't due to deleting first posters, a random number generator or any other conspiracy. The previous 6 comments on this article are editorial comments and are only visible to the editors. We use editorial comments to give each other criticism on our articles while they are in the submission queue, much like on k5. It is part of our ambition to provide you, the readers, with the finest original articles on the Internet. HTH.

I honestly can't find fault with your originality. I will confess that I am in awe of the manner in which this site is administrated. Extarbags truly is a wise soul.

I look forward to seeing the results of your next inspiration. Have you considered working for The Sun or The Enquirer?

Besides, I think the idea of euthanizing the worthless portions of our population would do wonders for the gene pool. It would certainly have a remarkable impact on this site, don't you agree?
