I still don't understand...how is it illegal?

If you load ANY other operating system than the one your PC originally came with, that's illegal. Since this is what Linux was designed to do - replace Microsoft Windows - it is illegal. You have broken your End User License Agreement, which you AGREED to automatically by using your computer.

I agree completely with dmg. Slackware is the perfect distro for the discriminating elitist Kuro5hin wanker or ignorant Slashbot. Its incomprehensible packaging system, coupled with its blatant disregard for the Linux Standards Base, ensure hours of fun fucking around with scripts that look in /etc to see the symlink to /bin/opt or whatever.

I don't remember seeing that in my copy of EULA.

I don't think Linux was designed to replace Windows, but if it does, so what? Best tool for the job, I'd say (Linux is shitty for the desktop, but fine for a lot of server applications, but that's just my opinion).

Since your statement about the EULA is incorrect, no one has yet explained to me why Linux is illegal.

Nice troll (pretty much the point of adequacy.org, no?).

You should note, when you post a comment you get the message, "Trolling is not tolerated here. Any comment may be deleted by a site admin, and all trolls will be deleted. This is your fair warning."

So I think you need to back up your claim with some examples.

"If you load ANY other operating system than the one your PC originally came with, that's illegal."

That's a good one.

Because once I purchase some hardware, some corporation has the right to tell me how I can use it.

Ford tells me I can't speed in my Mustang.

GE tells me I can't store junk food in my fridge.

You're a fucking idiot. Don't comment on shit you don't understand please. And nowhere in all my Windows installation CDs does it say I cannot have it installed simultaneously with another OS.

So, does that mean that if I'd installed Windows on it, then overwriting the diagnostics boot sector on the brand-new, fresh-from-the-antistat-bag hard disk was illegal? I've never replaced Windows with Linux on *any* computer.

Oh, and what if your PC comes with an operating system other than Windows, like the IBM and Compaq servers that come with Linux installed on them?

I would think at least you would keep from blind character bashing.

I happen to like linux but I am neither a 14 year old retard nor a homo nor do I live in my basement (hell I don't even have a basement I live on solid limestone).

I do have a superiority complex though, because I've seen many people and the world is inumerably stupid.

I love you. You claim to suffer from a superiority complex, and then immediately prove it by not only misspelling but failing to correctly use the word "innumerably."

You know how they all think that Slackware is just like a version name rather than a distro name. Kinda like Windows 95, 98, Me, etc.

"Slackware 8.1 the newest version of Linux."

Uhh, nope. The newswest version of Slackware.

Just goes to show you the level of intelligence and maturity of an MCSE.

Go away or I will replace you with a very small shell script.

putting a new OS on your computer if it currently has one installed (thus overwritting your current OS) is by no means illegal. The only thing that it may do is void a service agreement in you EULA (which i believe is what he was trying to get at but is too retarded to sufficiently type out his thought process). But going back to the voiding of the service agreement, if you upgraded to say Linux you would a) more than likely not even need service or tech support because linux is acctually a stable OS and b) could get free tech support from user groups and the like.
