It's done. I've figured it out. I know how to make sure men and women get along again.

Every year, eligible men and women gather together in a gymnasium. They talk, they run, they engage in sports and display their goods (mental, physical and emotional) for each other's benefit. Those who are attracted to each other agree to bond for a preset length of time. At the end of that time, they can either go their separate ways or renew the bond. If they go their separate ways, they go back to the gymnasium to find a new partner.

No muss, no fuss. Everybody gets to exercise choice and free will. And most of all, no games.

Whatcha think?

You also have to add a stipulation where if somone has been brought back to the Gym not to renew their commitment, but to be passed on to some other poor schmuck, and they are being brought back for the 15th or 20th time, they should be exiled, or taken out and shot... Somthing to make sure they don't inflict their personalities and obvioulsly defficient DNA on the rest of society any longer.

yeah...

Its like the Shia Muslim temporary marriage. (4.00 / 2) (#3)

Check it out Mutah Marriage

I think we can learn a lot from Islam.

The American justice system could do with a bit less 'turn the other cheek' and a bit more 'eye-for-an-eye'

American women need to cover up more.

We are a nation of alcoholics.

How long would this go on? (5.00 / 2) (#4)
by Adam Rightmann on Tue Jul 17th, 2001 at 10:58:32 AM PST
It takes more than a few hours of running around in skimpy nylon shorts to get to know someone. A lasting relationship is based on shared values, values that are often too complex to be explained within a few short hours.

As far as there being no games, you have a far more optimistic nature of humanity than I do. I fear there would still be people with evil intent present, men who would coerce women into giving up their womanly gifts for a short time, and then leave them alone and bitter.

I don't see what is wrong with third parties arranging meetings between men and women. Oftentimes, a neutral third pary has a greater insight into your character than you do, and wouldn't be wowed by a cheap facade and pherenomes. Arranged marriages have worked for thousands of years, they should not be dismissed out of hand.

...men who would coerce women into giving up their womanly gifts for a short time, and then leave them alone and bitter.

True. A woman would never do a similar thing to a man. Ever. Anyone who thinks otherwise is clearly deluded and a misogynist.

I don't see what is wrong with third parties arranging meetings between men and women.

Absolutely! Down with free will and personal choice! Let's get back to good, old-fashioned family values! My parents should arrange my marriage, then I'll take a few concubines with which to slake my male carnal lusts so I don't abuse my pure, righteous wife.

Thank you, Adam. Without your guidance, I'd be wandering blindly through the dark, deluding myself into thinking I was living a comfortable, fulfilled life.

Are you seeking Concubines? (5.00 / 1) (#9)
by opalhawk on Tue Jul 17th, 2001 at 03:41:13 PM PST
Are you seeking Concubines?

I have been "put aside" by my husband because I had begun to think for myself, a mistake and an accident I assure you. Now however, I find myself wandering lost and alone without the support and comfort of a good upright man of god to guide me.

Naturaly, now that I have admitied to cognitive sin, I am no longer welcome in the community that was once so eagar to shape, mold, and live my life. They chose my first husband for me graciously (he was the junior pastor of our church! )and with care! Without their guidance, I am lost.

I was like a pastor's wife should be, and I was trained to look perfect and fluff my hair and smile while uttering not a word.... But now my actions betray my careful upbringing. Curse the bastards who convinced me of the evil notion that I was intelligent enough to persue a path to higher learning, curse the bastards that gave me college scolarships, curse them, for college is when I began to think! Curse them for ruining my life! I knew I should have been content to drop out of high school, start poping out babies and answer the phone at the church... Oh, ignorance was such bliss!

I beg you, take me, retrain me... and if it is to late, corrupt me more, make me the perfect slut... at least make me a more succesful concubine than I was a pastors wife! I long, as all women do, to fall into my socitaly specified role! My well being is in your hands, take me, please!

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you.

You shouldn't say stuff like this. It kind of winds blokes up and then they can't be responsible for their primitive actions and instincts.

It make chaps all Byronic.

Anyway, if I were you I'd consider making a life in North Africa. Harems are now recognised by many feminists as being perfect places for women to grow and discover their full potential, whilst also learning the knowledge you seek.

Questionable goods? (3.50 / 2) (#11)
by SpaceGhoti on Tue Jul 17th, 2001 at 03:59:16 PM PST
Hmm...I don't know. You've already demonstrated your godless tendencies. Were I to take you as my concubine, I'd have to discipline you strictly and keep you tightly tethered. I might even ask a few of my mates to take a hand at watching over you, maybe give you over to my wife for proper instruction. You'll have to be sincere about turning away from your secular life of higher learning and self-improvement in order to debase yourself enough to serve at my feet.

However, I am willing to make the attempt. Let it never be said that I'm not gracious enough to take a poor, lost soul under my wing to instruct and dominate properly.

I'm tempted to use the phrase "moral probity" here, but I think that might be a little much.

A thousand thanks! (5.00 / 1) (#12)
by opalhawk on Tue Jul 17th, 2001 at 04:30:56 PM PST
You have no idea how thankful I am! Please know I will do my best to adhere to the strict code that rules your household, and if I do accidentily stray from the dicipline building rules, I will accept whatever punishment you deem graciously and with thanks. Punish my body to better my soul!

I am so eager to throw to the wind my years of study! Rest assured that my mind is now closed to all but that which you tell me. I will not fail this time. You are my master and my shephard, I will follow where you lead.

I shall now begin my service and take my place. I lower myself back to service at the feet of a gracious man where I no doubt belong. I shall no longer speak but when spoken to, and then only what you would have me say, save this: Thank you again oh kind and generous one, may my lips always bring you service and my body pleasure.

You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted, then used against you.

A good idea (5.00 / 2) (#6)
by bc on Tue Jul 17th, 2001 at 11:13:18 AM PST
Rather than sports in the gymnasium, it should be traditional dances. I don't know how popular such things are in America, but in urban scotland the scottish country dance is a hugely popular form of recreation.

There is nothing quite like it for breaking down inhibitions. The Gay Gordons are a special favourite of mine.

When a man and woman first meet oftentimes there can be a barrier of reserve and shyness. The caelidh destroys all this because if you are hurling some random female around on your arm and collapsing om the floor drunk a lot and all this is viewed as fun and getting into the spirit of it, these reservations vanish.

Traditional country dancing is a splendid way to meet nice, fun loving females with a sense of history and fun.

Hmmm ... (none / 0) (#8)
by Anonymous Reader on Tue Jul 17th, 2001 at 02:10:44 PM PST
Yes dear, did indeed catch the ref. *grin*

However ... why not just do the obvious & start treating each other with a little love and respect, rather than play all the damned games we tend to do with one another? Pardon my response of 'yikes' when a) you folks take this suggestion seriously, or b) the option of arranged marriages & the like comes up. I'm telling you, it just isn't that hard - we make it that way ourselves, then blame each other. It's not the fault of men ... not the fault of women. *shrugs* Frankly, I don't know what all the fuss is about.

Just my not-so-humble opinion ...
