1000 voices, drilling your thoughts every day.

It's all gone downhill since those pristine towers fell. Some small rebel group decided to throw stones at what they perceived to be Goliath, and finally poked an eye out. If they could stop the chit chat that was making them right, they would see a clearer vision of the present time situation.

Hidden Agenda
It's there, even when you think you are alone, that voice that tells you what to do. You didn't realize it drives your every action. Like right now as it tells you that I am wrong and you don't have to keep reading. Try to tell that snapping turtle to go away; you can't. Nearly every human on this little planet has a snapping turtle driving them around and making them right, all day long. Can't handle that? Sucks doesn't it. It makes you right when you type a reply to some vomit that another member posted; it makes you mad when you read something that you don't agree with; it splinters your mind when you screw up and notice that someone saw you. You are doomed to beat yourself up over and over again until you find another incident to beat yourself up over. If any other human attacked and raped and pilliaged you the way you vandalize yourself, they'd be put in a hole and buried there forever. Forget about what anyone thinks about you, because only you can say how good you are. If someone says something about you that is bad, it's just their excuse to take the focus off themselves for a while and watch as someone else gets mangled. Something to think about...

the "1,000 voices", "that voice", or "that snapping turtle" that you are listening to?

What does your turtle say, just out of interest? Or does it just snap?

Mturtle tells me how inadequate I am when I make a mistake, or mess something up.
Unfortunately, I haven't mastered the technique of quieting my mind, so my snapping turtle still kicks my ass when I screw up; but I am learning to ignore it.

How about... (none / 0) (#12)

accepting that you made a mistake, fixing it (or at least attempting to fix it), and doing your best to learn from it so you don't repeat the same mistake next time?

That way you don't have to use up so much energy trying to ignore the snapping turtle, and you simultaneously learn some humility and build some character. Whatever your solution is, good luck. If you've got a particularly vicious snapping turtle, it's hard to make it productive.

You've got it. (none / 0) (#13)
by innominate on Thu Mar 7th, 2002 at 11:53:05 AM PST
It's a bitch overcoming that voice in your head. Expending energy ignoring the turtle is worth it if when you make a mistake you are past it in a shorter amount of time; and if you remember, or are reminded of the incident you don't beat yourself up again, and again.
These are the things I have overcome in the last 4 years of my life, and why I am becoming passionate about telling others, without regard to what they think of me.
More power to us all!

Anti-psychotic drugs are what psychotics give those around them that are expanding, while they are staying 'normal'. If you live to experience everything you can on this planet, you may be percieved as psychotic; but if you know how this game (read lie) is played, you'll ignore the ignorant people that follow like sheep and do your own thing. Reaching for mediocrity is not my bag; I like to keep expanding my universe; anything less is unacceptable to me. You most likely have a different opinion, and I honor that.

To thine ownself be true.

by innominate on Thu Mar 7th, 2002 at 10:36:31 AM PST
uhm, that is kind of an abstract comment, but I will try to clear it up.
If everyone on this planet could see the freedom of having a quiet mind instead of 1000 voices all talking at once (metaphorically speaking), then they could enjoy each other; since they would not be inside their heads handling objections, they would be outside their bodies, being with the world.
I think that everyone should accept nothing less than full responsibility for their own actions; no blaming someone else or he said she said excuses, just 'I did it and I am happy'. In that society, good and bad just cannot exist, because every action is deliberate and the person is responsible for what they have done.

but... (none / 0) (#10)
by derek3000 on Thu Mar 7th, 2002 at 11:09:51 AM PST
if hurting someone else genuinely makes me happy, then it would be ok in your society.

I thought you were talking about inhibitions and things like that.

by nathan on Thu Mar 7th, 2002 at 02:05:33 PM PST
Since no one "can have a quiet mind," why bother thinking about it? If everyone on the planet could fly and photosynthesize, life would be different, but that's at most matter for a lousy SF book.

Responsibility doesn't imply the obviation of good and evil, by the way. Everyone is totally responsible, but totally incapable of behaving responsibly, so fight your way out of that conundrum.

anything is possible, even quiet minds... (none / 0) (#19)
by innominate on Fri Mar 8th, 2002 at 05:22:00 AM PST
I put no effort into making others wrong.
That said, I appreciate your opinion, and I agree that on some level, total responsibility is a conundrum. They way to fix that is to realize that there are levels of ethics. Basically society is moral based. Not much higher than that on a good day. Right/wrong, good/bad, light/dark; all part of that moral society. Politicians thrive for it because they can put others at odds over those trivial situations.
Next is Values, then Ethics, then Prinicples.
I endevour to base my life on Principles over all else. That correctly implies that I am not always successful, but trying.

Shiny shoes? (none / 0) (#11)
by RobotSlave on Thu Mar 7th, 2002 at 11:34:05 AM PST
I'm not wearing shoes.

Isn't it fun having someone to hate, Mr. Isn't? Doesn't it make it so much easier to ignore your own shortcomings?

I don't mind. I actually think it's kind of cute.

Are you trying to take credit for The Itching? If you are, then why not just come out and say it? I'd respect that, regardless of whether or not I'd believe it.

While we're playing the guess-the-Anonymous-Reader game, let's have a look at some of my anonymous comments that you've liked, Mr. Isn't. Start with this.

I think I might do a bit of the intermittent anonymous posting again, just to trip you up. That would amuse me, for a little while anyway.

Keep up the great attitude, Robotslave; I love it!

I don't hate anyone here. You can't hate things that don't really exist.

I'm not taking credit for the itching comes, but my opinion is that innominate didn't write it. Take that as you will.

At least we can agree that Anonymous Reader guessing is fun. For example, I'm an editor or something.

"but my opinion is that innominate didn't write it" You mean the above diary entry?
Trust is a hard thing to come by, my friend, but if I had a way to prove that I sat here for 15 minutes and wrote that diary entry I would. In my daily routine, I just don't have time to lie. I have too much fun telling the truth anyway.
You are completely entitled to your opinion, and I will not try to take it away from you.
