ok - so I post something to my diary on K5... and someone reads it, and instantly thinks that I'm talking about them.

I'm typing a bunch of crap. read it if you want, it's not my problem...
Hey, look, its yes another wonderful entry to my dearest diary!
Yes another entry, another rant, and this one is about rants.
drugs, jazz, cancer, and really really stupid people
let us try this again: more words typed by me for your enjoyment
The power of words
Its about time I write more!
Time does not exist.
land of the dead
I cna tpye vrey welll
sleepy, so very sleepy
whooooooooo! look at the flurry of activity

The fleeting memories of a bowl of cereal
Hey everyone,
What's for lunch?

Excellent Work!
Why should I care?
sucks to be you
I'm allergic to my in-law's basement...
The importance of a very nice figure

A Friend in Need
I had a dream
This person comments in the diary... to which I am confused, as I gave no indication that I might even remotely be talking about them.

To which this person tells me that I should not engage in flamewars... which is terribly odd as I don't recall there being a flamewar.

This person asks me to post on scoopizoid, which I cannot as it is blocked from my place of employment's contracted internet filtering company.

And so I post here instead...

And I'm really not sure why, but its better than trying to talk sensibly to idiot-boy. The poor fool really believes that they are the center of the universe, I suppose.

That position belongs to my co-worker.

duh.

just venting...

It just seems that I cannot talk about anything these days without someone thinking that I'm attacking them, or that I have some hidden alterior motive.

Really, its quite sad.

Yeah, you're being stalked, fuckwit. It's just like you to come crying to your buttbuddies over here at inAdequacy. Be a real man and face me at GiZ.

When did flamewars become manly? (5.00 / 3) (#3)
by elenchos on Mon Feb 11th, 2002 at 12:55:59 PM PST
Did I not get a memo? Last I knew it took zero balls whatsoever to post stuff on the Internet. Over at GiZ have they invented some new technology for making posters feel actual consequences for what they say? How does it work? It sounds like something Adequacy.org would be interested in purchasing, if it is viable.

I would love to be able to offer our users the chance to "be a man" and "face" each other, rather than just typing whatever they want at their keyboards and forgetting about it.

This Vladinator should read the Prince (none / 0) (#5)
by Adam Rightmann on Mon Feb 11th, 2002 at 01:18:37 PM PST
Most of the editors at adequacy have The Prince on their bedstand (the rest have it memorized), and find it an invaluable tome of realpolitik needed to keep adequacy, the internet's most controversial site, troll free.

Trying to piece together the story from this Geekizoid site (and avoiding the adulterous pornography), this Vladinator made the mistake of trying to be friends with the hoi polloi that frequent his site. Such a thing only leads to contempt and familiarity.

He should have banned this Biscuit or Crank poster immediately, and never recanted. It may have taken a while, but he would have learned his lesson and gone back to 15 year old geeks living in their basement or whinging liberalists.

The Prince (none / 0) (#6)

A lovely cookbook of democracy. I particularly love the part that goes "Men are a contemptible lot, so you need not keep your promises to them. A prince never lacks reasons to break his promises." (or the equivalent in Italian).

Kinda like your .sig, MFS

so what? (none / 0) (#8)
by motherfuckin spork on Tue Feb 12th, 2002 at 09:20:20 AM PST
generally, I see a post from MCA and I ignore it.

much like I did the other post in this diary.

my .sig is meaningless - unless you want to find meaning in it. Its just a bunch of words.

So... (none / 0) (#9)
by jvance on Tue Feb 12th, 2002 at 09:55:35 AM PST
So I'm sorry, that's what. It was stepping over the line. Not any line that might be defined for this site, mind you - my personal line.

Looks like this Crank guy is pretty much a dick to everyone. You don't need to deal with a flame faked from him.

Again, my apologies.

back whenf 300 baud modems roamed the land, the rule of thumb within the BBS community was this: Don't post anything that you wouldn't yell in a crowded room where your mother was present. Yes, this was probably improbably polite by most people's standards, and yes, the Internet has made the likelihood of meeting your pixel buddies in real life far less likely, but the content of the messages was generally of a much higher calibre than most of what passes for "posting" in the modern era.

As a tangential aside, back then we employed a fabulous innovation known as the "twit bit." If a particular user was known for consistently posting pointlessly or flaming, toggling this setting for that user's account would make it so that they would continue to see their own posts, but no one other than those with sysop responsibilities would ever have a clue about the offensive party's rantings. It was primitive, but it did offer one distinct advantage over deleting the offending party's words as a matter of course... Because the message was still visible (to them as the poster), and because they appeared to receive no response, generally they lost interest and drifted away. It was elegant, really.

just curious... (5.00 / 1) (#12)

which particular strain of BBSes was this?
