but the diaries here really blow. i've written some really insightful, thought provoking stuff that nobody reads. too bad.

diaries not popular enough? (none / 0) (#5)

The only reason you write diary entries then is for the response you get from other people? You're not even going to maintain the pretty story other journalers have about your diary being primarily for yourself?

What's the point of doing it here, then? Do you really think a site full of people who don't know you are going to be fascinated by your diary?

here? (none / 0) (#6)
by alprazolam on Wed Aug 29th, 2001 at 06:06:41 PM PST
here i don't write them for myself. that's why they're not filled with boring drivel like k5, where they are. that's why i have shit about work there, so i have a reference to when i did things.

the point here isn't to fascinate but to get people talking about shit.

With our extended downtime, there's not a lot we can do about our loss of users. Eventually people will come back. We are working on that.

But it's not here now.

Victims of the market (none / 0) (#2)

The truth is that Adequacy.org has fallen victim to the same cutbacks as many other promising dot coms. Quite simply, our angel investor was recently indicted for securities fraud and we have lost our funding.

Due to this significant economic blow, we were forced to lay off a large number of our staff, close our office, and sell our servers in order to pay past-due colocation fees. We are currently running Adequacy.org on a Compaq 386 donated by elby that is hosted on bc's 33.6k AOL modem connection.

Since our few remaining writers are no longer being paid, they have been forced to take jobs such as selling magazine subscriptions door to door. Obviously this has impacted their schedules, and they are no longer able to spend the number of days required to research articles as well as Adequacy.org's rigid standards demand.

Cool! I've been looking for a cheap Aeron. (nt) (none / 0) (#3)

Apparently someone very strongly disagrees with you that that's a good idea.

Not perdida, BTW.

I like comment ratings. They're funny. Being a trusted user on Adequacy so that I can see the zero ratings gives meaning to my otherwise shallow and empty life. Here I am, on a Saturday night, drunk, surfing the web because I'm a loser. Sure, my wife is here, but she's a geek, so she's playing diablo, or black & white, or one of those games for people who are unable to exist comfortably in real life.

So here I am, listening to Bob Dylan and drinking my vodka, and even though there's a beautiful woman in the room with me, she's just droning on about the zombies she's killing with her +4 against undead bow or something. So I turn to adequacy for comfort. Adequacy, where intellectual ideas flow like water from the moses' rock. Adequacy, where all that is said is coated in eloquence and basted in genius. Adequacy, where I am at home, primarily because I'm a trusted user. Adequacy, where I can recieve praises and feedback nobody cares enough to give me in the real world. God bless Adequacy.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, yeah. Every succesful business must turn to porn sooner or later. 'Tis the way of humanity. I shall be keeping a close eye on the premium content section and shall be paying for it as soon as the opportunity arises to do so.
