Klamath (5.00 / 2) (#1) | |
by error27 on Sun Nov 18th, 2001 at 12:21:11 PM PST
The Pentium II was code named Klamath. That's probably why so many people voted for it.
People who voted for Klamath are almost certainly elitest "geeks" because only "geeks" would know something retarded like that. I propose that their accounts be deleted and their IP address are banned. |

does this extend to you, error27? Nathan -- Li'l Sis: Yo, that's a real grey area. Even by my lax standards. |

...some Adequacy readers are Fallout 2 fans. Fallout 2 is only available for the Microsoft Windows operating system, so any "gamers" who played Fallout 2 cannot be "geeks." |

I voted for the Chinook, because really big helicopters are cool. |

Ainu is also boosted because of the g**k factor. This is because it is Japanese, land of manga, anime, playstations, haiku and technological fetishism, loved by geeks o'er all the world. As an editor, I thank you for pointing this out. We will indeed carefully look at the IP's of those who vote for both Klamath and Ainu, and ban them accordingly. If you are looking at this after just having voted for Ainu or Klamath, make the best of it - your days as an adequacy reader are numbered! ♥, bc. |

I never heard of it before. I voted for it because it had only one speaker who is a USian. My choices of Esperanto and French weren't available. |

If French and/or Esperanto were to die out, the world would be a much better place. Call it wishful thinking.
Were French or Esperanto available, I surely would have voted for one of them. Come to think of it, no I wouldn't. Maybe on a *least* favorite language poll. |

Actually, I remember the word Klamath from the CRPG Fallout series (I don't remember which one, for the life of me). That's just as geeky, of course. --Kintara |

OK, obviously none of you dimwits figured out that this is a joke poll. I mean, come on, how can a tongue have 1 native speaker? What, do they talk to themselves? It's language for chrissakes, not sex. And by the way, I'm the only native speaker of Hoohoohaha, and I'm offended that my language wasn't listed on the poll. No, there's no one else who knows Hoohoohaha, so you'll just have to take my word for it that I'm a native speaker. If you doubt me, just give me some phrases and I'll be happy to translate them into my native tongue. |
One native speaker. (none / 0) (#16)

Very simple, your imperialist policies[1] wiped out the rest of the speakers of the tongue.

Native speakers... (none / 0) (#24)
by Anonymous Reader on Mon Nov 26th, 2001 at 02:26:41 PM PST
If you use the phrase 'native', then the language could be far from extinct. Languages can be taught and learned, and if the poll referred only to those _native_ speakers, then it's meaningless... |

Basque is not an endangered language, you idiot. It's got over half a million native speakers, it is an official regional language in Spain, it's taught in schools, used in media, you name it... |

...Esperanto?
More people speak Klingon than Esperanto. For that matter, I would propose that dwindling Indian ("Native American" for all of you bleeding-hearts) tribes switch to Klingon, since they seem to be set on not speaking English like good, normal, clean Americans. It's about time for them to get some standards. Klingon is a well-thought-out language which would meet their needs perfectly -- it is only second in beauty, elegance, and perfection of implementation to English. Of course, if they resist, it might be out duty to push them in the right direction. Why I voted for Klamath (4.00 / 1) (#21)

I study linguistics, and it was one of the more fiercely thorny problems assigned in one of my intro analysis courses. |
