Welcome Kuro5hin refugees
Hmm, grilling time!
!Feliz Cinco De Mayo!
My sources have told me that the bastion of liberalist-technophilia, Kuro5hin, is down with severe server problems. I'm sure many of the frequenters of that blog are looking for a place to meet and chat, and I would like to offer Adequacy!

Now, if you wish to contribute a story here, please make it literate, controversial, and clearly thought out. Surely there must be some liberalists who can string a few sentences together to give a rationalization to their desire to hate God. There must be some sinners whoare willing to defend their fornicating in a well-written, coherent story.

Or course, if you can't do that, you can always write a diary.

I hope that link will be sufficient warning to any Lunix hackers out there who would attempt to infiltrate Adequacy with hacker tools like ping, telnet, nmap and SATAN before attempting to launch a DOS (Disk Operating System) attack.

Being a published computer book author (modesty forbids the Amazon link), I know of what I speak. I won't go into detail about what I posted (for while Adequacy is safely protected by propietary software, other sites are handicapped by running Open Sauce software and are vulnerable to hacker attacks), each of the hacker tools I mentioned are used to attack sites. Some are used to survey the site, others are used to find vulnerabilitles and others can take down a network.

A. Rightmann

Microsoft is good enough to let users know when users are using their products incorrectly. Not only do open source products have lots of bugs, they try to hide these bugs from the users! Proof of this can be found <a href="http://slashdot.org">here</a>.

Yeah, yeah, I won't get into a big argument with this one. Let me just mention, FreeBSD, Apache, and SCOOP (which only runs on Unices). Your utter lack of knowledge is more than enough proof that you should be banned from the Internet. Next time I would suggest getting some real training rather than asking Yoshi.

Adequacy runs on Windows 2000 Sun Server Edition on proprietary Sun hardware. Adequacy has a source license to MS Internet Information Server which the editors have exploited to return arbitrary HTTP headers and misdirect petty hacker criminals. It wouldnt work if the daft hackers werent so easily confused by their over self-estimable intelligence, but there you go, they are and it does.

Hacker software running remotely, anti-hacker (proprietary) software running locally. No way! Software can do that? Get out of town! Why did you assume Adequacy cant write and run their own software? Is it because Adequacy is always up while Kuro5hinux always down?

I hope I got that computer jargon correct, it is hard to reach your aurdience sometimes.

A liberal is not necessarily a liberalist, though there is a fair amount of overlap. A liberalist is the sort who believes in cultural relativism, that no culture is inherently superior to any other, the kind of slippery slope thinking that invariably leads to baby killing, birth control, heresy, gun control and other heinous behaviors that offend God.

As a trained computer professional, I must correct your computer jargon.

Assuming you were trying to establish a reference to unequality, the title you are looking for was "liberal <> liberalist". Furthermore, the title should have been capitalized.

what with all these geeks arguing about the correct language, be it C, Fortran,Pearl, Java or Visual Basic, and then arguing about the correct use of whitespace and bracket syntax. Working in such a fractured environment, it's no wonder that they take this same argumentative viewpoint when attempting to save their souls.

In HTML its & not ; (Minus the spaces. for some reason "& amp;not;" was cutting out the first amp and just ended up printing a ¬). On my keyboard is shift+the key to the left of 1 and above tab, the backtick key I believe its called. I think US keyboards have a tilde there though, so that last bit of advice is only good for GB varient keyboards.

It's the quotes. (none / 0) (#40)
by Anonymous Reader on Thu Apr 11th, 2002 at 03:00:53 AM PST
Double quotes get translated to '& quot;' or some such by scoop when a comment is posted. Unfortunately, the string-length checking code-bits aren't terribly sophisitacted, or the ampersand-escape parsing is lousy, or maybe they just don't allow any room for string expansion when stuffing CGI data into SQL.

Not that it matters. You've learned your lesson: Don't use double quotes in the subject field.

What's annoying (1.00 / 2) (#44)
by Anonymous Reader on Thu Apr 11th, 2002 at 02:22:52 PM PST
is that "preview comment" doesn't behave the same way. That implies different code is running to format the display for preview versus post. Which means it isn't really a preview.

If I had time, I'd dive into Scoop and either a) fix the display bug, or b) move the display bug into preview (hack hack hack.) But PHP has warped my brain, and I may never be able to look at Perl again without hurling[1].
