War on Copyright Violation. |
|||||||||||||||
This war will not be like other wars, and we can not predict how long it will last. We do not wish to persecute those who engage in Fair Use; rather, we will go straight for the Copyright Violators.
The campaign will commence immediately, with the unilateral deletion of any and all comments in direct violation of clearly stated copyright notices and terms at Adequacy. This includes individual user notices and terms in addition to the site-wide copyright found at the bottom of this, and every, page. There may be exceptions. Borderline copyright violation that is amusing, stylish, or in service of a larger philosophical argument might be kept, perhaps with an administrative note. We do not wish to act as censors, of course, or to in any way inhibit the free expression of controversial opinion, so in the service of free expression, original content in copyright-violating comments will be summarized in a formal editorial Deletion Notice. These latter concessions are not to my personal liking, as I believe a unilateral approach is called for. However, certain editors have raised concerns that a wider program might step on religious freedom, or even threaten controversy itself, so I have reluctantly agreed to a lesser campaign.
An oversight committee will be formed to create a formal structure for the new War department, but until that framework is in place, I, RobotSlave, will serve as Interim Secretary Minister of Innovation Integrity. |
