Mundane Rambling

I'm not really doing anything today. I pondered going into work (time and a half since I'm already at about 45 hours this week) or driving down to Galveston by myself to just look at the water and think. I might do both. I'll probably end up doing neither.

I didn't get anything terribly interesting. About a week ago, I got a new pair of boots from my parents, and the grandparents sent me $10.00. They've been spelling my name wrong for about the last ten years.

Other than that, an uneventful day. Oh yeah, whatever scores my traffic on my site crashed and erased all my statistics for this month. Oh well.

I think the person did this purposefully, to underline the idea that the "sucking" in question is not a value judgement, but rather cold, hard fact.

The only thing cold and hard around here is surely your frozen Russian butt. I can understand that you'd be easily confused. I'll try to feel sorry for you as I'm sitting out on the nice warm Gulf seashore this evening.

Happy birthday Miss Wicked (3.33 / 3) (#3)
by Adam Rightmann on Sat Feb 23rd, 2002 at 10:19:41 AM PST
I hope you have a joyful day. I've always found the ocean contemplative, during my sojourn in Atlantic City I found the ocean just about the only worthy thing their, the rest being Godless temples to Mammon. I would pick Galveston, perhaps an offshore winter storm will make it more dramatic.

Your age explains much, it's almost a cliche for a young person to be attracted to Socialism or Communism. Sadly, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union (begun when you were not yet one), youngster will no longer have the negative experience of seeing the human cost of Godless Socialism; seeing waves of refugees risking sharks and exposure to flee Cuba, people risking slow death on the bleeding from AK-47 wounds on the barbed wire of Berlin to convert them from to a better form of government. Anyhow, be glad Communism was tossed on the dustbin of history while you were still in grade school.

Soviet Union != Socialism (2.16 / 6) (#4)
by jin wicked on Sat Feb 23rd, 2002 at 10:30:50 AM PST
That was state capitalism. Socialism is a global system, and must be to work. It also doesn't involve any government to speak of. But I'll forgive you for not knowing that.

I just LOVE jin wicked's site! Especially the "fash" section, where I learned to cut the bottom off of an old shirt to use as a hair enhancement! Oh, and the "dance party" photos!

Of course, don't forget to read jin wicked's emails! Here you will discover how truly difficult it is to decide what to do on the weekends... have a pizza party? A fash party? Go to the mall with all of your friends? Have a sleepover and call boys on the phone?

In short, if you haven't checked out jin wicked's site, you don't know what you're missing!

  1. It wasn't really that funny.
  2. You have a humor-deficiency problem.

I have a full time 40+ hour day job with benefits and I make anywhere from $200-500/month on my artwork (depending on season and my site traffic.) As a matter of fact, I'm doing a show/competition in April.

No. (5.00 / 1) (#25)
by jin wicked on Mon Feb 25th, 2002 at 08:09:32 PM PST
Will you please explain to me the humour in my statement and how that contradicts my political beliefs? As I am currently residing in a capitalistic society it is in my best interests to do as well for myself as I can. Incidentally, I am not anyone's boss at my job (I am one of the lowly wage slaves), and my business is a sole proprietorship, so I am not exploiting anyone else in the process of creating my wares. Now, I ask you -- because I believe in production for use instead of profit, does that mean I am supposed to go live bare-footed in a commune somewhere? It seems to me my energy promoting what I believe in would be far better spent if I have the means and funds to aid in getting that message out. Perhaps, if I were terribly wealthy or lead some insanely extravagant lifestyle, you might have a point. Unfortunately, I do not live that way, nor do I wish to. If I dream of financial wealth it is because in our society it is impossible to ever really know security. (That is the nature of capitalism.) I fail to see how wanting to keep myself clothed and fed contradicts in any way my willingness to educate people about the benefits of a socialistic society and dream of a future in which no one goes hungry, and things like surplus food aren't destroyed or left to rot in the name of profit.

I realize you are some sort of snot-faced twit sitting behind your Anonymous Coward-dom, thinking you are making some cute little comment to make everyone point and laugh and say 'Ha ha, Jin the hypocrite!' but this is an issue which I am (in case you can't tell) extremely serious about and I won't tolerate you trying to tarnish my reputation or call my ethics and integrity into question. Now, I would be much obliged if you'd kindly remove the finger from your nose and go back to asking me for nude photographs or linking my name to the Olsen Twins like all the other prepubescent idiots.

There are numerous places you could go live out your Socialist Dream. The fact is you couldn't withstand giving up everything this evil Capitalist-pig society has given you.

I would love to be there when you are an adult - say 20 years from now - and have to look back at these inane comments you keep making.

A little-known historical fact: actually, most communist revolutionaries were in fact filthy rich and lived extravagant livestyles.

I guess that means you really have to have zero respect for a person's time and labor to be a communist.

Where do you think the wares you sell come from? (4.33 / 3) (#32)
by luisa on Mon Feb 25th, 2002 at 10:45:40 PM PST
Your art supplies and the products at your place of employment are not likely to be American or even European-produced across the board. It is highly likely some underfed youths produce the goods that you consume and sell for work and play. If you truly cared anything for your ideals in more than a trendy surface fashion, you'd not contribute to the production and dissemination of goods and services produced in adverse conditions (sweatshop labor, par example.) Socialism doesn't equal commune-style living, but it would involve more than a visit to a single website to learn that. Faux socialists like yourself are even more irksome than actual ones because at least the actual ones live their ideals instead of being content to just spout them emptily. There are ways to circumvent capitalism even in America and still live decently, but it would take effort and ingenuity and a willingness to spend time offline with other people who share the same beliefs. But heck, you're better off than 95% of the planet. Why should you change your lifestyle to better reflect socialist beliefs when you can simply be a hypocritical idealist type like so many other young Americans?
