What is there to do on a Friday night? I've renounced women (involuntarily,) I don't have time to learn to dance, I'm far too tight to spend a little on a movie, and I'm also quite a whiner.

Augustine isn't doing it for me right now. Hannah Arendt was earlier today. Why, I can scarcely find the energy to make rude remarks to site newcomers and defend a Christian Existentialist position despite being woefully underread in the relevant works.

I'd go drink some nourishing liquor, but I have a soccer match tomorrow morning (intermural finals, Music vs. Engineering. We go by 'The Mahlers.' Cute, no?) I can't muster any enthusiasm for eating, sleeping, practicing, reading, or the computer, which is pretty much the ambit of my life, I have to say. I have plenty of enthusiasm for sex, on a general level, but not much opportunity, so strike that too.

Maybe I could go fall asleep with my face in a newspaper or something. Any suggestions?

...about how you have nothing to do all Friday night, how can you say you don't have time for dancing lessons? Go sign up for a two hour ballroom or swing dancing class every Friday. You'll be married by January.

Hey, didn't you say you believed in God? Why not go meet women at church? I mean, if you can't at least still do that, then religion has really outlived it's usefullness.

The women you meet at church aren't slutty enough.

being amazed. Maybe next weekend I'll try crusing 8:00 service at St. Boris's, down the block.

suggesting? A seductive reading of the Gospel of Judas, followed by the assumption of assorted cruciform positions?

Convince 'em you care. By actually caring.

If you can fake sincerity, you've got it made

Maureen O'Hair and Hillary Clinton do (did) not. Who would you rather have?

Atheism may be more correct, but Christians are far sexier. Christians are freakin sluts, if you want the truth.

By actually caring, you are leaving yourself open to the possibility of rejection and the resultant emotional distress. What you need to do is to bury your true self deep, deep within a shell of garrulous insincerity. Then use people as a means to selfish ends. Give this method a try: you'll be surprised at how effective it is!

beats the hell out of FDW, that's for sure. I could only read Infinite Jest once, but I've read GR four or five times.

Bah. What you need is a good bottle of gin.

And David Foster Wallace is nothing more than a "post-modernist" hack, far too in love with his own cleverness to ever write a decent novel.
