What if all the mental energy, the rage on Slashdot message boards had been concentrated on building solid business models in enterprise computing?

Rage != constructive energies (3.00 / 1) (#1)

in the computerese langauge you people seem to understand. I see the point that Mitchell is trying to make, that angry energy would be better sublimated towards improvign software in general, but the ability to sublimate such energy is a skill that takes discipline and practice to invoke.

Welcome back, but I know the only reason you are here is that Gibbering-liberal-bonobos.org is down.

driven from libertarian_evolved_monkeys.org, as is any religious person except pagans and Randians, unlike Adequacy, where any controverisial viewpoint is welcomed, as long as you're willing to stick to your guns and defend it.

I second that notion. (none / 0) (#5)

I second Mr. Rightmann's statement. It is true. (Even though the honorable Mr. Rightmann is a Catholic... :(()

and once the prophecies of Fatima are realized and Mother Russia is consecrated to the Church, your inborn sense of morality will do you well when you convert. It's not hard, really, just get rid of the married priests and adjust your calendars. You can keep the onion domed churches, they look cool.

Clerical celibacy is perverted. (none / 0) (#7)
by tkatchev on Fri Oct 19th, 2001 at 09:25:16 AM PST
I mean, how can a celibate priest be a moral and spiritual leader of a community? It takes a special sort of dedication to lead a life of celibacy and prayer. That sort of person is just not the person who can help you live a life of harmony with God and with your community, simply because such a person doesn't have the "people skills" to be a good councilor for people stuck here in worldly sin.

In any case, in classic Christian theology, raising a family with true Christian values, with love of God, is as important and worthwhile as a life of monastic duty.

As a parent (4.00 / 1) (#8)
by Adam Rightmann on Fri Oct 19th, 2001 at 09:31:43 AM PST
I find that raising my family in a proper Christian way takes an awful lot of time, leaving me little time for other ministries. I can't imagine attempting to be a good spiritual shepherd and be a good father at the same time.

Granted, raising a family is also important, but I think being a priest and raising a family are what's known as an x-or in the online community.

Treading on thin ice here! (5.00 / 1) (#10)
by tkatchev on Fri Oct 19th, 2001 at 11:24:23 AM PST
Look, being a Christian is hard. That is the whole point, after all! Those who take the easy way out end up perishing in hell. Nobody except you yourself is going to bring you salvation. Salvation isn't some free manna from heaven that falls to anybody who happens to be standing around below; unless you actively work towards salvation, you won't reach it. There is no free lunch, not even in the afterlife.

The whole point of Christianity, after all, is that of free will. You are given a choice -- either save yourself, or perish in hell. That choice will not be easy, and you can't take the middle road. You have to pick one, and only one way.

Ranting on about Linux and MS on a crappy website != ability to write decent applications.

I thought it was a hilarious remark...

I post here even when k5 is down. It's just that your diary section is even more wankily self absorbed than even K5's...

What if all the mental energy, the rage on Slashdot message boards had been concentrated on building solid business models in enterprise computing?
Then we'd have one buggy enterprise package, and nowhere really fun to go on the web.
