Went back into the studio last night and started working on new music for troublemint. Got there about 5, left around 11, we aren't even done with the music let alone vocals.

10 tracks will do that though I guess.

So I start laying down the second guitar tracks. And I'm thinking "Hmmm, something sounds out of tune" but noone else agrees. Finally after about 40 minutes of work I just stop. We get out a chromatic tuner and realize we are off by about 9 cents. So the means I have to go back and redo almost all of my guitar work. Which SUCKS.

On the other hand, it allows me to be a bit more meticulous about some of the things I did. Which is always exciting. I just don't want to put anything out that's unprofessional.

Our first demo is making it's way around the cleveland area, and we are generating a bit of buzz, so maybe something will come of this after all, and we can start gigging.

I restrung a guitar for the first time in years (5.00 / 1) (#1)

on Saturday. My oldest daughter has a crappy junior sized guitar, and it was missing a string. Friday night, while the wife and baby were visiting Buffalo to deliver a few nice meals of stuffed porkchops to her sister (who also just had a baby) we hit the town; Friendly's, toy stores, hardware store, you name it. At Zany Brainy I found a pack of student strings for her guitar, and replaced them all.

Of course, the guitar still has an annoying buzz in it, I think I need to put an eraser at the one end to dampen them. And my daughter, being only 5, hasn't yet learned that hard work and practice are needed to be good at anything.

I don't know what it's called, as I spent my teen years reading and studyiung instead of stoned and playing guitar, but it's the end where the strings are anchored. It's just a cheap piece of bent metal, attached to the butt of the guitar, holding the string ends. I think a little damping would help a lot on that piece.

Oh yes, now that I think about it, it's missing the 4rth fret, too. I need to cobble up a replacement.

If the buzzing is down there just insert something to stop it from vibrating. I'm sure you really aren't worried about the tone.

sex books. No, I too was taken in a bit by the whole Open Source movement, and wrote my two books on an Open Source networking package. They're selling so slowly I doubt I will ever see royalties from them, and the advances barely brushed past 5 figures.

I do.

The ones I know have their wife and kids on welfare, while working under the table at pizza shops to buy CDs and pot. You once jammed with the Mekons, oh, that makes putting your wife and kids in poverty all worth it.

I should finally have DSL access and will immediately commence downloading whatever you have available. I've been looking forward for 2 months and I haven't hear one note of your music. So that should be some sort of ego boost I think.

ya gotta check the tuning BEFORE you go into the studio...

Actually I'm kinda bad myself as far as that goes. The semi-acoustic nylon string I use for gigs has a tuner built into the onboard EQ. Thus, I have become a lazy bastard.

How much are you guys paying per hour? I haven't yet recorded a studio demo, I've just been using a home setup. However, now that I am playing with a drummer (before it was just me singing, playing guitar, programming bass lines, drumlines, midi, etc.) my home studio is woefully inadequate. Anyhow, we're trying to get a gig playing this big festival thing in April, and I reckon we oughta make some sort of demo. The place is about 4 hours away, so I'd rather send our demo through the mail than lug our gear out there. I live in Taiwan, so I know the prices'll be different, but I'd still like to know...
