I get the feeling that our beloved editor elenchos is no more than a bot of sorts, picking its way through Adequacy stories and diaries, looking for anything that could be regarded as negative press for the site. I therefore say that ADEQUACY SUCKS, and if I'm right, this entry will be removed to Kuro5hin.

Thank you and goodnight.

I think he means linux. lunix is an 8 bit os for a c64. Get it right for once, linsux or something like that would be better than lunix, lunix looks like little unix more than some lame ass attempt at trying to distort the name

Why not ortho-crap or para-crap? And when we're in it, why to use trivial names when IUPAC gave us handy conventions: what about 1,3-crap, 1,2-crap, and 1,4-crap?

Then we'd be chem g**ks instead of computer g**ks.

Come to think of it, I will never utter 'meta' again unless I'm discussing chemistry; in other words, never.

to not utter 'meta' (outside of chemistry matters). The only potential trap you'll make for yourself would be 'subliminal' uses of meta; e.g., "timetable", or "What? Me talking crap? Never". I'm sure you'll be on the lookout! All the best.

What are you saying? (none / 0) (#17)
by Anonymous Reader on Tue Mar 12th, 2002 at 07:56:04 AM PST
Do you think this site ought to be a democracy? Would you rather the editors didn't have the powers that make this site what it is?

Perhaps you should write up some Magna Carta sort of thing detailing what, exactly, you would like this site to be.

What I'm saying (none / 0) (#19)
by because it isnt on Tue Mar 12th, 2002 at 09:12:22 AM PST
is that this site is a showcase for the talents of the glorious editors and users. Users have to learn to write diaries that awe the editors, and need no changes. Editors get themselves points for style and flair when they tame the wild beasts that are rogue diarists. Deleting diaries outright is admitting that they don't have a wittier riposte (or that the diary is just spam).

Who is condescended to by mere shop assistants. I'll bet when you shop for clothing, or luxury items, the shop assistant manages to humiliate you in a sneering and slightly patronising way. I bet you don't have the attitude, the cojones, the chutzpah to walk into a shop like Van Cleef and Arpels or Voyage and demand the level of service to which you are entitled ?

Am I right ? I am, aren't I ?

I expect you want adequacy to become like Paris ?

Well I can tell you now, that will NEVER happen.

Er, no.

Unlike your graceful self, I do not need assistance in eating my meals, I do not need assistance in going to the bathroom, and I certainly do not need assistance in shopping.

Good day to you, Sir.

by walwyn on Wed Mar 13th, 2002 at 06:16:53 AM PST
you don't need assistance whilst you are running out of pizzahut without paying, scribbling your telephone number on the toilet door, or shoplifting from your high street store.

For the rest of us who do not engage in these activities a little assistance (at least with paying) is welcome.

you are grasping for the term "checkout operator", "sales clerk" or "shopkeeper".

And I hope you wouldn't insinuate anything so vulgar as to claim I eat at yank hangout like Pizza Hut. Such remarks damage my character. As a true brit, I get my fast food from the Wimpy.

Well, I became a scofflaw of American FDA import restrictions ever since they banned Irn Bru.

And whilst Sharwoods might be ethnic it is not exactly British.

You should try the local delicacies (none / 0) (#30)
by Anonymous Reader on Fri Mar 15th, 2002 at 04:31:50 AM PST
Wimpy!? I ate there once. ONCE! Pressed and fried offal, sold under the moniker "beefburger."

This is a sadly typical American attitude towards food. Often in top London restaurants such as Pétrus or Gordon Ramsey, one will find loud Americans demanding burgers, ribs, and fried chicken.

I urge those Americans who are brave enough to travel outside their nation's boundaries to sample native cuisine, rather than the local attempt at American food.

For example, at Wimpy, although the menu does contain American items such as beefburgers, the true house speciality is the marvellous Bender in a Bun. Once you've tried one of these quintessentially English meals, you'll never be tempted to order a beefburger at Wimpy again.

Either way it proves the point that a few people have tried to make. The mindset of the editors appears to be one of "I don't like this post. I'll delete it. I don't care if anyone else likes it.". Elenchos' strategy of moving them to a different site wasn't much better.

What's your complaint? (none / 0) (#16)
by Anonymous Reader on Tue Mar 12th, 2002 at 07:42:47 AM PST
How is this different than slash-dot, where nothing that doesn't interest the editors shows up on the home page, ever?

Or Rusty's Ant Farm, where nothing that the majority of lusers doesn't agree with ever makes it out of the queue?

What, exactly, do you want here? It's clear from the outset that this is an edited site. Do you want it to be something else?
