Indeed. It's pretty clear that if any of us stay here much longer, we'll be permanently trapped.

Go ahead, nawl, we're all right behind you. Seriously, don't look back, we're all following, just hurry, run, nawl, run!

I think that all intelligent people should leave this site immediately

And here, I was hoping YOU would leave instead.

You know, it sorta detracts from your comment about "intelligent people" when you go on to absolutely BUTCHER the English language. No less than THREE FIFTHS of your diary was in some way incorrect English.

Now, I realize nobody's perfect, dear NAWL, but you insist on asserting how intelligent you are while consistently proving yourself to be utterly incapable of composing a reasonably correct sentence. Half the time, your writings are totally incomprehensible.

Why don't you take your hands off the keyboard for a moment. Take a deep breath. Slowly and carefully read this diary entry and ponder just how badly you've made a complete ass of yourself (yet again).

Much like your own writings and arguments with NAWL. I find that you have yet to offer the proof the he asked for. I also find it amazing that I will find numerous posts in response to your arguments. You write the same continuous dribble about how you are all so intelligent and we are supposed to take your words for it with proof or merit. The most odd thing about it, is the responses from NAWL and many other seem to just vanish.

Perhaps you overlooked the warning when viewing the posting page:

Trolling is not tolerated here. Any comment may be deleted by a site admin, and all trolls will be deleted. This is your fair warning.

NAWL has a history of posting inflammatory, trollish statements in various posts so he can get his little giggles in regards to who replies to his misinformation and diatribe. I am more than happy to see editors rigorously enforcing the policies used to keep this site as good as it is.

In other news, I have been informed by senior officials that NAWL is not, in fact, a made-up fantasy character. He is real, just like his opinions. He genuinely believes that Linux 'is the sh*t'. These views, while controversial, are not falsely held opinions used purely to drive a response. Slander is a serious offense, "Yoshi". I hope you like prison food.

With NAWL leaves one of the last remnants of the Linux Revisionist Historians. Making up facts to support their Socialist ideas about "free software" and their quest to steal the sauce code from Microsoft mainframes. I can't say I will miss him much, because his inflammatory statements never really did have much insight. Fortunately, we are now left with only perpetuators of truth in the community. Congratulations, all.

Yoshi -

It's Pete again, you know - Tim's friend from the other conversation.

Why the hell would Microsoft run mainframes? Mainframes can't run their operating system of choice, Windoze - and even if they could, why would they store recipies for spaghetti on them??

Get it?? SAUCE Code!!

HAHAHAHAHAHA - GOD YOU'RE A MORON!! I WEEP FOR THE FUTURE!!

Apparently you've never heard of Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows .NET 2002, Microsoft's line of operating systems that are robust and stable enough to be used in the most mission-critical mainframes in existence today. This lack of knowledge leads me to believe that everything you said previously was more fabrication on your part. Please, take your trolling elsewhere. This is not the site for you to make up your little "statistics" and wordplay to try to edge out an argument - because it's not going to be tolerated.

NAWL,

Just because some people here have really no idea what in the hell they're talking about, and I'd wager most don't believe what they write, you shouldn't leave. I disagree with a lot here, but I'm not going anywhere, I rather like having a sounding board for my ideas where people can try and shoot them down until either it becomes apparent that I was wrong (and sometimes I am) or apparent that there really isn't a valid way to discredit what I have to say. It helps knowing what people are going to say if you ever intend to debate in public. Its like the Lincoln-Douglas debate structure in highschool and college forensics. Good fun.

It really would be a shame if you left on account of people like Yoshi. I encourage you to stay and continue to post. You may be wrong, you may be right, it really doesn't matter, what matters is that people's minds are being made to think, which is something this country desperately needs.
Tim

Hey, what do you have against idiots? (5.00 / 1) (#15)
by poltroon on Tue Jan 22nd, 2002 at 07:37:02 PM PST
It's the idiots who need your advice because they lack the faculties to detect idiotic conversations. Since idiots may not realize their idiocy, and smart people, such as myself, clearly wouldn't need your advice, your recommendation must be a ploy to get the idiots to leave adequacy. That strikes me as quite unkind.

...and here I was thinking this site was just a very big joke for almost a whole month... Wow. OK, so much for my hopes that humanity is not going down the drain. Some of you people need to really wake up, not to mention learning some good debating habits (pointing out spelling errors doesn't make for a good arguement, and neither do personal attacks - they just make you look like an ass). Oh well, there always have to be the people that believe they are the "thinking class"... after all, someone needs to wash our cars, collect garbage, clean out public buildings, etc., and if they feel like big men/women even though they hold such jobs, all the better for them.

I agree, the occasional spelling/grammar error is no big deal. However, when someone - namely NAWL - continues to chop the English language into tiny little bits with complete consistency, then it begins to hint at something relevant: ILLITERACY.

I'm supposed to believe that someone who can't compose a post at anything above a seventh grade level is worth listening to? That is an intelligent person?

Perhaps you think this is the wrong attitude. Frankly, I don't give a flying fuck. People who can't write don't deserve to be heard.

It's quite possible that he was simply using poor English in order to give you something to actually argue about. Time and time again that seems to be the only real thing you have to piss and moan about. It's a great way for you to avoid delving into the real issues. It very well could be the fact that he types extremely fast. I can type 60wpm, though not always with 100% accuracy. Regular posters also don't have the ability to edit posts like the editors do. Not everyone will waste their time typing out posts in Ms Word, run spell check, and then do a little CUT & PASTE. Just because you can use a thesaurus, does make you intelligent.

See what I mean? I typed that in almost no time flat and from what I can tell I only made one real mistake. Just because you can use a thesaurus, doesN'T make you intelligent.

by osm on Tue Jan 22nd, 2002 at 08:54:39 PM PST
So you defend NAWL by saying that his writing was trash because he typed fast. Now you say that your last post proves your point because you typed it in fast and didn't make many mistakes. That makes sense. Smoke some more pot. You need it. Your reality bubble is collapsing.

Just because you can use a thesaurus, doesN'T make you intelligent.

That wasn't my point. Try to focus. I said that people who are illiterate have no business judging the intelligence of others.

Thats not the point! (none / 0) (#36)
by Anonymous Reader on Thu Jan 24th, 2002 at 01:41:25 PM PST
As someone said before, you're dodging the issue he's bringing up. Perhaps he lives in a non-English speaking country? But naw... You would never think that possible. I mean after all, how can you believe that there is actually a whole world outside the US or UK (I'm guessing you live in one of those two). But the bottom line is that that's not the point! You can only judge intelligence by the contents of the person's writing. NOT by their spelling, and not even by the fact that they can read or not. Believe it or not, but being able to regurgitate knowledge at will doesn't make you intelligent. Neither does literacy (and I'm not saying that the author of this diary is illiterate - he just types fast). It may make you more intelligent, but only if you already are. Perhaps you should step out from behind your huge ego and take a look at the world, and maybe read this article again.

It's quite possible that he was simply using poor English in order to give you something to actually argue about.

That's what I also suspected after reading some of NAWL's posts. After careful analysis of the evidence, I have come to the conclusion that NAWL is that kind of person who would do anything to provoke other people just for the sake of arguing.

All his spelling and grammatical errors, foul language, the use of made up "facts", and the appearance of being totally incompetent are not real. I think he gave that away when he just went to far with it in some of his recent posts. In fact he is only trying to waste the time of Adequacy.org readers by forcing the knowledgable among them to respond time and again to his outrageous claims and to the factual errors he intentionally puts into his posts.

I think that all intelligent people should leave this site immediately.

I wonder who NAWL means by "all intelligent people" here. I guess it doesn't matter. No, I don't believe all intelligent people should leave immediately. And I doubt they want to. They would be missing out on so much fun.

Sure it would be ok to visit from time to time, for a good laugh.

I've been laughing ever since NAWL showed up, to be honest.

Let them have their uninformed, idiotic, and unitelligent arguments.

Can't say I disagree that we should be left to have our arguments, however NAWL wishes to characterize them.

While we actual go about out lives and learn they will grow dumb.

Of course, this is absurd. Barring any medical condition people can't "grow dumb" so I guess I would have to disagree with this statement. As far as "we actual go about out lives" is concerned, I'm not sure there is anything to agree/disagree with there. Maybe you can translate it better than I.

When they actually go out into the real world they will be laughed at for their stupidity and misinformation.

I've never gone out into the world and been laughed at for stupidity or misinformation. So, I can't say I agree with that either.

Overall, I guess I would have to say no, I don't agree with NAWL's statement. All of NAWL's "intelligent people" should not leave the site immediately because I am having enormous fun laughing at them (you).

I must commend you for writing this fascinating computer program. For several days I was taken in, believing it to be another human.

Perhaps in version 1.2 you might include more than the placeholder sense of humour displayed by v1.1, but please be careful! It is possible your software will soon be able to pass the Turing test, and then I fear others will begin to take it seriously.

Excellent stuff, keep up the good work!
