Why Boys are Better Than Girls, part II
I'm sure that my posts here will be much more well supported and less trollish than my posts anywhere else. I'm glad to see a place where lively, productive debate is actually encouraged. Keep it up!

Well met! (5.00 / 2) (#1)

Dear Sir:

I note in your post that you described yourself as a "card-carrying Libertarian." It's good to have yet another friend of Liberty here! You will be a welcome addition to the popular news and discussion site Adequacy.Org.

However, since there have been a few trolls lately, it would be helpful if you could verify that you are ACTUALLY a card-carrying Libertarian.

1. What is the number on your card? Mine is 648444.

2. Do you ACTUALLY "carry" the card, or do you just use "carry" in a metaphorical sense? I keep my card in my wallet, but I don't always take my wallet with me when I leave the house. Hence I sometimes "carry" my card and sometimes not.

3. Do you keep your cards from the previous years? Where do you keep them? Do you "carry" them? I still have all my older cards (1999 and 2000), and I keep them in a drawer next to my bed as backup identification in case my current card is ever lost.

Sorry about the formalities, but I'm afraid they're neccessary.

Again, welcome to the popular news and discussion site Adequacy.Org and please enjoy your stay.

A fair question. (5.00 / 3) (#2)

A reasonable question; however as a Libertarian I value my privacy, and in particular my privacy on the Internet a great deal, therefore I am reluctant to divulge the actual number of the card, as I view such information to be confidential between myself and the Libertarian Party, just as the Social Security number is meant to be confidential between myself and the government--however difficult it seems to convince third parties of that fact.

I don't usually have the card on my person, but in my desk drawer. I always register Libertarian in the elections, unelss I want to screw up some other party's primaries. I have also done quite a bit of work collecting signatures to put Libertarian candidates on the ballots in the states I have lived in.

Before I registered I noted that Adequacy.org has very hard-working and reasonable editors; I certainly wouldn't want to make their work harder by "trolling." Fortunately this appears to be a site where trolling in order to get one's point across is unnecessary, even counterproductive. I'd like to think that the veracity and sincerity of my posts will speak for themselves, as regards my trustworthiness.

Cheers--

Tolerable. (5.00 / 2) (#3)

Had you provided a membership number, I'd have known you were a fraud: we both know that Libertarians value privacy, and if you'd given a number, it would have been obvious you had made it up. Of course, I didn't give you MY real number either. I took my real number, ran it through a popular encryption algorithm (I can't say which one because obscurity is one key to security, but let's say that it's an algorithm used by big-name companies like Microsoft and Adobe), and posted the resulting number here.

Even though you're technically not "card-carrying," I will accept your claims. Perhaps you could say "card-owning" to eliminate ambiguity.

I'm convinced you're not a troll and have nothing in mind but productive and proactive discussion about the real issues. I agree with what you say regarding the veracity and sincerity of one's posts being a clear identifier of the person's intent. Society is built on trust (actually, it's built on property rights, but "trust" sounds nicer), and trust is what it's all about.

Why is it... (5.00 / 2) (#4)

...that reading this conversation reminds me of the Goofy Gophers? You know, those two gophers on old WB cartoons with the Brit accent that always behaved so prim and proper.

I hated those gophers.
