Oh, my...
So in high-stress places like grad school, where people work hard and many of those who work hard also play hard, it's important if you're not part of the dominant genus (in this case, straight geeky men) to have a very solid idea of who you are and what you want and what you'll put up with. If your head isn't screwed on securely, you're quite likely to find other things screwed, or screwed up, with vigor.

So genera available to nonmen seem to include Taken, Ugly, and Feminazi. None of which are me. Perhaps another one would have, in the past, been Nun, but nobody's seen one in so long that they don't know how to behave. Maybe I should buy me a ruler. I know some knuckles could use a smacking.

Speaking of nuns, check out this poem of Erica Jong, Becoming a Nun.

Just kind of wandering around the zoo, amazed, doesn't seem to be an option. Folks'll want to know which cage you belong in.

Remind me to tell the story of the Hallowe'en party some time...

Hmm. I'm about to enter Grad school. I suppose I would qualify as a straight geeky guy. You might try for one tough sister. This would work whether you had the habit or not.

Just bust some heads.

Let the people wonder what cage you belong in. Their wanting to know automatically places them in a cage of their own making.

is a soul-destroying pit of damnation. Only the strongest survive. The weak are destroyed, but go on walking, not realizing they're already dead.

Hang onto your soul, and your principles. Partly grad school, at least in the sciences, is about learning to critique your own (and other people's) ideas. Learning to not fall in love with your untested ideas is hard. But it doesn't have to mean not being able to love yourself.

do not tell the story of the halloween party at any time. i can only stomach so much decadent sleaze from one female in a given millenium.

Currently a somewhat unfashionable stereotype, but one that will be readily comprehended by geek males.

See pretty much any pre-1980 movie for details. Think Nurse Rached in "One flew over the cuckoos nest" (the movie, not the book).

yea those are pretty common but one that i liked to use was "interesting". so you would probably fit in to that one. at least you know you won't be labeled "frightening".

You know, I kinda seem like just some girl, but I'm so inscrutable that nobody really has any idea what in the world I am - Taken, Feminazi, Nun, Whore, Interesting, Boring, etc ? It's insolvable. Golly, even I haven't the slightest idea. In the end though, it all leads to Death. That's for sure.
