No doubt there are owners or aficionados of Stradivarius violins using this web site.

I recently purchased an exhibition grade American walnut rifle stock blank, absolutely top notch but unfinished. I would like to finish the wood with the same laquer used on the Stradivarius violins, as I undertand that it brings out the quality of the wood's grain without unnecessarily tainting its color, and is purported to be virtually indestructable.

Using the common search engines I have been able to glean little information concerning the finish's components. Coupled with the fact that my filtering software has rejected a number of sites (no doubt obscene beyond imagination), I have not recovered the formulation. Please report any information you may have, or provide a clickable link.

For those of you who own, play, or have seen one of these pieces, I would like to know your assessment of its finish quality.

even if they've figured out the 'secret ingredients' in Stradivari's finishes, I'll bet you the new violins made that way still won't sound as good. This makes me oddly happy.

Good old reliable Borax. I will see what sort of mixtures I can make with it and the various insecticides I have. They all contain chemicals that would act as wood preservatives but I am unsure which would be best.

Thank you for the information.
