Why do I feel that I've stepped into a hostile debate club meeting?

Well, I'm here. Greetings and salutations all around. Tommorow, perhaps, I'll post a long, whiny, self-absorbed goodbye rant to Kuro5hin, Signal 11 style. Perhaps tonight I will stay up writing it. More likely, though, I will just get drunk on cheap vodka and pass out on the floor next to my bed until it comes time to awaken and attend to another day of staring at radiation producing monitors and attending to the idiosyncracies of ugly grey boxes. Gee, I hope I'm getting this whining thing down right.

hello.
Canada
Hey fluffy grue,
I like the green patches that appear in a potato
George Harrison is dead.
Well, I had a debate class in high school. And in college, I spent a couple of years as a philosophy major. So I think I've become at least somewhat accustomed to arguing things I don't believe in, so perhaps I'll fit in. I fear I haven't read nearly the political philosophy to argue with jsm, but I have seen Leon more than once, so I should be OK with osm. On the other hand, I am a successful white 20-something male USian working in the computer industry, so all the editors may very well hate me from the get-go. Fun, fun.

Well, I was raised with a strict Christian upgringing, so there's certainly an ultra-fundamental bible-thumping troll down in there somewhere, but to be honest, I got sick of using him a long time ago on Usenet, so you won't be seeing him. There's a fair chance I won't be posting here much at all, in fact. However, just from first glance I see the writing level is a long shot above Kuro5hin's, so I'll at least be lurking. Perhaps the time will come when I may engage you all in lively and educational debate!

Or, something.

Love the diary pict, by the way. And, of course, the picture of the mascot. Is there any place where I can find some exciting pictures of TheReverand?

First of all, I think you should get drunk and post a long whiny rant to kuro5hin. Then you would be in the grand tradition of shoeboy at Atomfilms, and so on.

However, you must understand that Adequacy.org is mostly sincere, in the same sense that most of our political leaders are mostly sincere.

This is a place where we hope to argue opinions rarely heard, and often attacked by the mainstream.

Our mission statement thunders the goals of the site quite admirably, I think.

And I am glad to hear you had a good Christian upbringing; Adequacy.org hopes to be a place of upstanding moral probity, possibly only rivaled by some of the more devout Irish Bishops.

Anyway, hope you have fun :)

Thank you. (5.00 / 1) (#2)

But you failed to provide me with any pictures of TheReverand, thus your post was worthless to me. As an athiest who has turned his back on his moral upbringing and now spends his time skinning priests and bishops alive in his basement, I fully intend to place a hex on you for not providing me with the requested pictures. Did I mention I was also wiccan? Please excuse me while I mumble incoherently in Latin, despite the fact than Latin died long before wicca was ever born. And despite the fact that I don't know Latin. And despite the fact that I don't have a basement.

At any rate, I shall take to heart your words and see to it that I am fully sincere in all that I say, as sure as Captain A. Zornchugger, esq. is my God-given name.

And while you are fetching me pictures of TheReverand, kindly tell me where I might find these Irish bishops of which you speak.

And have found some pictures of theReverand.

As for the Irish Bishops, I cannot help. But may I suggest a trip to Eire?

I already have that picture, but it was a noble and valient attempt, and for that reason, your existence has been validated in my eyes.

On that note, thanks for the welcome, bc, and I'm glad to be here!

One thing, though -- it seems obvious that you're an editor here, but I can't find the name bc on the 'who' page. Would I be breaking any rules of adequacy etiquette if I asked who, in fact, you are?

I haven't gotten round to adding myself yet (5.00 / 1) (#5)
by bc on Mon Jul 9th, 2001 at 06:44:21 PM PST
I shall do so tommorrow I think, I'm just too damn lazy.

As for who I am, well, I'm bc. However, I never really was much of a figure on any weblogs - Usenet was always my stomping ground.

But now I am happy to have been recruited by the adequacy staff, after they 'convinced' me to join.

Ah, I see now. (5.00 / 1) (#6)
by CaptainZornchugger on Mon Jul 9th, 2001 at 06:55:07 PM PST
You see, the reason I asked; and this may shock and disturb you, so I won't be naming any names; is that I've run into some of the people on the admin list on other weblogs in the past, and have suspected that some of them may have, at some point, used... alternate accounts.

I'm not saying they were trolling, of course -- far be it from the fine editors to do anything like that! But the fact remains that some of them seem to sometimes use alternate accounts, and thus I thought perhaps you were one of the editors already listed; just under a different 'guise'.

But I see now that you are not, and I thank you for clearing that up for me.

Disappointing (5.00 / 1) (#7)

You missed the most obvious candidate for a hot photo posting, even though she's not technically an editor.

Everyone has pictures of her... (5.00 / 1) (#8)

Finding pictures of the other editors is much more challenging.

Why'd you take down your site? There was a lot of really entertaining stuff there.

You know, I've seen sites out there where there are hundreds of photos of your (our?) lovely mascot. A little prowl in Yahoo or Google would no doubt find more more more. It seems to me that the properly worshipful thing to do is for you to whip up some little script on your server (where her image is stored) so that every time one goes to the official mascot page one sees a different picture.

By the way if you have really lost your copies of all those delightful tales that were on your site, I did save one or two of them (the Oz story, whoop!) to my hard drive and I can email them back to you if you like.

to a hot topic debate format using Scoop.

I agree, the mascot, whatshername, looks hot.
