Jew-bating. (none / 0) (#1)

Jew-bating still seems to be popular among some deranged individuals, even though the concept is almost as old as time itself.

Personally, I believe that if you're going through the trouble of pretending to be "controvercial", at least pick a topic that hasn't been beaten to a fine-grained powder.

I misspelled the word "baiting". Sorry, I guess.

that you spelled it the same way that it's spelled in "masturbating."

Coincidence? I think not.

How'd you manage to look at alprazolam's comment history? It took me 5 minutes to open your gol-durned diary entry.

Adequacy is currently straining under the weight of it's own popularity. Yesterday we had about 1900 concurrent users at peak and today is not much less traffic wise.

Someone should really coin a phrase for this, since it seems to happen to all websites. (No, not exactly like being slashdotted, it's more like what's happened to somethingawful on and off over the last year or two.)

Do we really need a new word for this?

When you go to the store and there's too many people, you have to wait a long time. We say the store was "busy" or "crowded." Often when demand exceeds supply, we call it "overloaded," or even "swamped." There are dozens of words that appropriately describe what happens when the freeway has too many cars on it or there are too many people heading for the exits at once, or when a server's capacity is too small for the current traffic level. A new phrase for this? Nay, we can do just fine with the phrases we already have.

I shall now quote the quintessential American philosopher Henry David Thoreau: ...er, well, no I don't really feel like looking stuff up just now. Use your IMAGINATION for once people! Remember that? The IMAGINATION? People used THAT back in the days before TV and computers did it all for you. So anyway, just imagine an appropriate pithy phrase from Henry David Throeau, quintessential American philosopher, adomnishing you not to invent a new word or phrase every time some new technology creates a "new" situation.

If you think about it, new technology failing to handle the load it is given is an old situation indeed, and not at all a thing we need to invent new language to handle.

The situation Adequacy is in right now is a situation with an emotional history. The situation is actually rather complex, and 'overloaded' does not convey it fully.

We need a word that implies the entire Internet at once. A word which describes the hopes and dreams of thousands of webmasters who in the end had to give up because, while their website was popular, it made no money and eventually they could not afford tos upport it. It must convey the feeling of guilt that the user gets knowing one of their favorite online journals could be on the verge of disappearing forever into the night, but that they don't care quite enough to donate money towards the cause.

No, this is much different than simply long lines at the supermarket. This is a microcosm of the entire internet subculture, it's pain and it's triumph.

Besides, how can you compare Adequacy to the store? The store isn't full of controversy, and it isn't run by internet superstars.

Mr. Al-Prazolam didn't even bother to show up in this thread. No doubt he's hoping it'll die a quick death.

...spelling mistakes or whether or not we should coin a new word for the server being slammed. It seems that there wouldn't be any posts at all here if it weren't for those of us who wanted to discuss those issues.

Now if only I could think of a clever reply to elby...
