a peaceful bulb of junk, art and bushes which protrudes into the Bay. Many of the bushes are caraway, so I gnawed on some of those while walking around on a web of trails which ended up in various spots. In the evening evening my sister and I went into the city and rode bikes to a little backyard behind a long narrow house where some people were roasting vegetables under the light of a spooky old floor lamp. There was a speech pathologist who picked us to talk to a lot. The next night we went to see a neat new movie in an old theater. Afterwards we hung around in city hall and ate mashed potatoes out of martini glasses.

That's awesome... (5.00 / 2) (#1)

Here in Minnesota, it is winter already.

Last Friday was a good day. It wasn't warm but it wasn't cold either. I think it was the last decent day we'll have for the next six months.

There were people out jogging today. Tons of them. It seems like they must be crazy to go jogging on a misserable day like today. In the rain. But I guess everyone knows that it's just going to get worse and worse for the next several months.

I went to the grocery store this evening and bought a frozen Mexican pizza. Grocery stores are always busiest when it is raining. An odd phenomenom which contradicts intuition.

Looking at your pictures makes me wistful and envious. They are so beautiful. And everything looks warmer than here. Well... Not especially warm.

But at least you are outside. And taking pictures.

I used to take pictures. But it has been a long time since I have seen anything worth recording.

I envy you. And I envy those crazy joggers... Out there in the rain.

It's actually cold and wet where I am too, and it just stays that way all winter - rain, but hardly ever snow. I was just visiting Berkeley for a couple days. I'm jealous of them too. My sister was telling me it was 80 degrees there last week, but while I was there it got pretty cold at night. It's a nice unwet sort of chill though.

that is grossly disturbing. no wonder the populace is festering with all manner of exotic diseases.

Another Seattlite on adequacy. I'm beginning to think that this provincial fishing village and some little coal-mining town in Britain are the only places on earth that still have internet access.

Actually there are a number of us in the greater Seattle area.

So what you're saying... (none / 0) (#8)
by RobotSlave on Tue Oct 23rd, 2001 at 12:43:53 PM PST
...is that there is internet access not only inside Seattle, but within several miles of Seattle, as well?

Fascinating.

Does anyone know the name of the British counterpart? I assume it's something along the lines of Hurlage or Snoot or Lenden-On-Mudflat. I'd like to have the name so I can use it as shorthand instead of typing out "city like Seattle, but on the wrong side of the Atlantic," or "city on the isle of inedible food, except for that brought in by the underclass from the subcontinent," or other laborious phrases.

I guess I'm stuck with the laborious phrases, then.

The closest Ukian equivalent to Seattle is the beautiful Berkshire town of Slough. It too is a high tech centre and Microsoft UK is located not far away. I recommend the place as holiday destination for all Usians brave enough to fly here.

Slough has fuck-all high tech in it, unless you count the power station and the railway line. Microsoft's UK headquarters are here in Reading, as are Oracle, Worldcom and Energis, to name but a few. Nortel, Symantec and Alcatel are in nearby Maidenhead. The only thing you'll find in Slough is moral decay and trainspotters.

Anyway what about Amazon UK headquarters being based there. Truly a sister city of Seattle...

Speaking as someone from the 'right' coast of the US, I can say that we do have internet access here. When it works. The wiring's a bit older here in Boston than in Seattle, though...

nice, nice (5.00 / 1) (#5)

In particular, this is a wonderful piece of Americana, the sort of thing that inspires foreigners to want to go to the US and make films. This one has some eerie lighting (flash?). This looks a lot like a giant lizard to me, and I found this one reminicent of a Peter Greenaway composition, minus some sadistic bastard raping/torturing people.

Gonna put some photos up on K5 of my escapades last night shortly. They didn't quite work out as well though :(

When push comes to shovin,
I'd rather make some lovin.

Hey, that only happens in 4 out of 5 of his movies. Cut the guy some slack.

so is this

a new trend that I can expect to see in Dallas within a year, or is it strictly a local thing?

it's just those kooky Californians. I haven't seen this trend in my city yet, where I think people tend to have enough sense to put a martini in the glass.
