 "South Side of the Sky"

In what may be a first for guitar players the world over, I have managed to rearrange that wonderful middle part of Yes' "South Side of the Sky" with the piano and the "la-la-la"s for guitar and bass. Trouble is, I can't play it! Of course, Wakeman's trills are hard enough to play on a keyboard, but you can imagine they are even harder to play smooshed onto the six strings and fretboard of my old Harmony Sovereign. And the fact that it alternates back and forth between 7/8, 10/8, and common 4/4 time doesn't make it any easier.

Oh well, if the fine Adequacy readership desires, I can write my arrangement up as tablature for a more talented guitarist than I to play with.

4/4 to 7/8 really isn't that difficult... its more of a "feel" thing... you just have to learn how to feel how the transition works instead of trying tap your foot while playing or something like that. That, or try to think of the 4/4 as really being 8/8 so that the transition to 7/8 is only missing a beat. I find getting the feel works better and makes it feel more natural.

I am not who you think I am.

I don't have so much of a problem with the timing myself, but when you're trying to play with someone else, it starts to get a bit iffy because your "feel" tends to be a bit off from your bandmates (esp. with rhythm like bass and drums, where your job is to keep the time). The main problem, though, is just that reaching the notes is a bit more of a stretch for my fretting hand than I'm used to (seeing as the piece was originally arranged for piano and all).
