Dear Diary,

Earlier this morning I posted my first comment to this site. Deciphering the lacuna of language, it was a broadly existential dig at the way our fate as individuals is increasingly becoming defined according to a cynical subsumption of survival in conformity. Conformivalism†, I call it.

I say cynical because survival is often marketed as the noble evasion of self-interest while, ying for yang, our sacrifices accrete in the selfless leader's pocketbook. If I told you there was historical precedent for what happens when an entire culture becomes usurped by one of its parts, would you hold my un-Teutonic sympathies against me?

Shed all your attachments to I and I shall gather what remains of your unhappiness in a thimble.
[editor's note, by RobotSlave]And so we arrive at the real point of the diary: Whining about comment deletion, with the customary flinging of porridge from the high-chair.

And so we come to the mysterious disappearance of my lonely comment, and the sum of all my fear and loathing. I fear the perversely deranged dictatorship of policemen at this opera bouffe might be capitalizing upon the bourgeois geek's conformist tendencies. I fear for the worst when I ask, "Has Rusty Foster become an editor at this site?"

I thank you in advance.

† This should be a word. If anyone is interested, I have a collection of similiar constructions, malapropisms and mixed metaphors which stretch the panties of the english language.

Author's customary, awkward plea to the Editors. (none / 0) (#1)

Thank you for your interest. If an editor would be so kind as to tighten the grammar, correct errant spelling, rewrite big words and long sentences into the kind of punchy prose young Republicans soak up between the pages of Third Reich "what if" histories, weave the various unrelated threads into a single coherent argument -- why, that would be just swellacious.†

that was still an unusually vague reply for you, RobotSlave. Are you suggesting I dont work hard enough cultivating a celebrity status in nothing less important than blogsville?

Sure, sure, if you like. (none / 0) (#7)

I didn't mean to imply that you've failed to write anything that anyone might find amusing or enlightening, though that's true enough.

I intended, rather, to suggest that you, like all too many of the hangers-on who drift into town, have patheticly weak kung-fu.

Now you're wheedling for yuks. (5.00 / 1) (#8)

I thought there was a strict no kung-fu policy at adequacy.

Let me assure you my opinions are solemnly held and that I am the Most Dangerous Man in the World when I unfurl my Comments of Fury. If there are any lapses of continuity in my so-called kung-fu, your dubbing is inadequate.

Seems we've got to piss you off a bit to provide proper motivation. We'll keep it in mind.

What are you going to major in after you finish school?

I bet it'll be something pretentious and totally useless, like psychology or web design.

I am an apprenticing at a postmodern atelier crafting matryoskas for Russia's sentimental elite. I am learning to hollow, carve and paint, stack and nest, little Jewess figures each one smaller than the other until, at their core, is a little gold tooth.

What the hell were you trying to say? (none / 0) (#10)

Reformat and repost, I think.

Also, in the future, don't try to be so smart -- you're not doing a very good job.

A pretty embarassing malapropism (none / 0) (#5)

I recently used the word "cadaver" in the place of "dapper". The worst part about it is I'm white and I was referring to a black person, so it was definitely a statement that could have been misconstrued as a racist remark. Thankfully the man I was referring to either didn't hear, didn't care, or fully realized the error. Whichever it was, it's the last time I'll ever make that mistake.

I used to think /. was one of the more pathetic weblogs, until I came across this little example of Adequacy and its editors at their finest. C'mon, not even at the height of bias have /. editors actually _deleted_ users comments; Adequacy now makes /. look like the home of open-minded and free discussion!
