Question for The Mad Scientist

Mr. Mad Scientist, sir? (none / 0) (#1)

We're still waiting...

I believe I speak for many when I say that I will be quite upset if you don't respond.

Well... (5.00 / 1) (#2)
by The Mad Scientist on Mon Jun 17th, 2002 at 03:37:49 PM PST
...for the last day I had a bit different things to worry about. I was upgrading a critical server, and a hour before I got five teeth extracted (the wonderful legacy of my bloodline - heart and teeth, wondering when the first one will bite the dust too). Well, at least I'll have no more problems with them anymore. But today I am stuffed with painkillers instead of my usual caffeine, so please bear with me...

For the rest of today, please try to be satisfied with this link.

If you want to help me for tomorrow, please rehash the situation a little and ask for some more details. I really don't know where to begin, and the lack of real-life experience with anything air-conditioning related that would be more complicated than a fan doesn't help too; in the geographical location where I live air conditioning is a luxury that's rather easy to go without. So I will have to cook from theory and the Net anyway.

On a side thought, I seen couple days ago one sequel of McGuyver; the moment interesting for us will be when he used expanding freon from a standard fridge to freeze a lock to the point of getting the steel fragile. While metals are known to become fragile in low temperatures, which some burglars are exploiting in the way of deep-freezing the locks with liquid nitrogen (or liquid air) and then breaking them with a hammer, I somehow doubt that it would be so easy to achieve low-enough temperatures with freon only, without special equipment. (While I was watching the scene, I was amusing myself with the idea what would McGuyver do (or rather how would he cough) if at the moment of opening the container (of course by breaking off the seal) he would figure out the fridge he used was using ammonia instead.) But this is about fridges, not strictly about air conditioners, though the principle is the same.

Regarding the mentioned government-sponsored introduction of pathogens into AC, I think Legionella can be well even without the governmental bureaucracy. (On a side thought, does a shoddy work of an illegal immigrant, leading to contamination of an AC system, count as "introduction of toxins by alien parasites"?)

More later, the drugs are kicking in and I am becoming sleepy. Please prepare some more specific questions than just "go" meanwhile. :)

More importantly, what would Jesus do?

Jesus and McGuvyer aren't the same person?

...would most likely cough and choke, as McGuyver would.

Jesus would have one more option, though - a miracle.

Didn't think of that (none / 0) (#4)

Tell you what, I'll try to make a passing reference to turbofans sometime this week. How would that work for you?
