Let me help.
kuro5hin - It was, and still is, full of Slashdot haters, but that could be said of just any site on the web. No one like Slashdot except the people who try to be part of the signal there. As for K5, it always has been a bunch of trolls. Now that you have returned with a clear head you can see them for what they are, that and the quality has slipped a bit.
Slashdot - Yeah, ads. There is nothing wrong with ads as long as they are tastefully done. Ads that sit up in the top right corner of the screen unobtrusively and direct me to excellent new products are fine. Gigantic, glowing, animated, loud, stupid ads that try to send my browser off to some open source quasi-paradise where everyone gives everything away free and nothing works quite right can stay the hell where they belong, on Slashdot. In fact, go over to Slashdot and tell those people to keep every vestige of the entire site to themselves. Keep their geek lives and their geek thoughts and their geek issues fenced up inside their geek compound, no one wants any of it.
Geekizoid - The original Geekizoid filled a niche. The second coming made me feel like I was in a gay bar. The conversation was too polite, the colors all matched, and I just got the general feeling that I didn't quite fit in. Supposedly it is back up in original form but I'm too afraid to visit it.
Adequacy - Much like the old Coke, it is better not to tinker with success. If a person wonders why Adequacy is unchanged, point to Lenux and tell them "see what happens when you let any idiot off the street grab a keyboard and start clicking away at something", they'll understand immediately.
Trollaxor - I don't know anything about that place. If it is anything like reading a Trollaxor post, I should go there immediately if not sooner.
Hope this helps.
