I came across this interesting link in a recent comment. While I'm sure that the personality inventory has good, hard science behind it, the descriptions of the different personality types leave much to be desired. I was hoping the intelligent, handsome and sexy readership of Adequacy could help me properly categorize the following:

It doesn't take into account the vital role played by the Id, the Ego and the Superego, for example, nor does it even mention the Oedipus Complex. There is nothing of the subconscious, and nothing in this Meyers-Briggs type indicicator measures the level of anal-genital psychosexual development. If you don't know if someone is stuck in the oral or anal stage, then what do you know about them at all? And what about the interpretation of dreams? What about displaced eroticism, or smothering mothers? If they claim to have any understanding of how the mind works, they should at least be conversant with the basics.

It never ceases to amaze me what sort of flim flam people will believe. Not that your sources are any better. Clearly they suffer from a transferrence of father-figure rebellion towards Dr. Freud and compulsively attack him in order to hide their homosexual impulses. Sick fuckers.

If this psychoanalysis stuff is so good, how come Freud never had a single functional relationship with a woman and spent most of his life pumping coke into his nostrils to get by?

Bah,Freudians, are pompous windbags, they need to step into first the 20th century then into the 21st, it amazes me you can sit there and claim that it has to do with some oral-anal fixation or fear of daddy?, what year are you living in? we have made many advances to psychology, not disproving freud but more like making his teachings less likely, than others, jung had better ideas,

by alice on Tue Apr 16th, 2002 at 10:49:12 PM PST
Women want to be adored, but only by the right men. These men must also say and do the right things at all times -- in practice this may not be as simple as it sounds, because sometimes it's right to do the wrong thing, since an assortment of flaws (of the right kind) is endearing.

    That's all.

    Not simple,... (none / 0) (#20)

    ...maybe even impossible.

A typical RTFM issue, but complicated with unavailability of the manual in question. If there would be a HOWTO, or at least a HOWTO-lite...

Can one at least rely on that all women want at least basically the same, so experimental results could be reused safely?

Your experimental findings with one woman are not applicable to all others. Maybe it would help for you to think of a woman as a machine learning problem; she is a profoundly complex being, and you must construct a machine which will become progressively more capable of decision making with every piece of input it garners from her (through some form of communication). The woman is the input for your learner (say, a decision tree or neural network). And after processing voluminous input you may build up a reasonably reliable framework for responding to her, but a different woman will amost certainly require a new framework. Each woman is a whole new mine of complexity which you must "learn".

that you view single life as a burden. It can be quite interesting and growth-inducing if approached in the right way. Of course, I'm not really one to talk about single life. It's been an awfully long time since my single days.

And yes, I know you're not like that in real life. I just wanted to have some fun and tease you a bit. Teasing is a habit of mine that I think is charming and everyone else probably thinks is annoying.

And remember that I did say that you - and men in general - rock.
