"Taliban" is a name of an organization; literally, it translates as "students"[1].

Saying "your child is a Taliban" automatically marks you as an clueless American and an idiot.

The correct way to form the phrase would be "your child is a Talib".

[1] Presumably, students of Islam. (Or maybe of the international school of terrorism, who knows.)

Presumably, students of Islam. (Or maybe of the international school of terrorism, who knows.)

The two are not mutually exclusive. The Taliban spent at least as much time studying Islam as they did learning terrorist techniques. One complements the other. It is part of an indoctrination process. Islam can easily be harnessed for nefarious purposes because of the unquestioning attitude most brands of Islam demand of their adherents.

1. One of the basic tenets of Islam is to seek knowledge, and thus to question.

2. Young, poor and uneducated men can be easily harnessed for nefarious purposes. Just because in some cases a bastardized version of Islam is a means to this end, does not mean it is any easier to "harness" than any other faith.

Another principle of Islam is to call anyone who does not practice said religion an "infidel."

Shut up you American infidel! I will kill you.

Some would argue that the Islam of Osama Bin Laden, Mullah Omar, and other so-called "Islamists" is a return to pure Islam, and the current form of Islam as practiced by the house of Saud and Musharref and the other so-called Muslim leaders is corrupted.

As an atheist, I do not single out Islam. All religions have their problems.

Perhaps the real problem is demographic, and Islam just happens to have a more poor uneducated young males than other religions.

I guess what I don't appreciate about Muslims, and religious people in general, is their total lack of doubt or uncertainty. It can come across as arrogance, and in the worst case can lead to religious strife such as can be found in Israel, Northern Ireland, Bosnia-Herzegovenia, Nigeria, Indonesia etc. I suppose this is the fault of the humans and not the religion, but it is difficult to separate the two.
