 Moaners

Why do all the people who piss&moan on this site come from k5? Everybody else seems to be OK, its just the k5ers who constantly whine and bitch, and come up with suggestions like "Hey! You people should open the queue and allow everybody to submit stories and vote on them".

Why are they like this?

Some might say that k5ers are whiners by their nature - for example:

<@rev> they are moaners
<@rev> hence they are on k5
<@rev> they view anything as a threat
<@rev> and everything is a troll
<@rev> they're idiots
<@rev> and you can quote me on that

However, rev is well known for saying anyone and everyone is a whiner, so perhaps we shouldn't take him too seriously.

There is certainly something odd though, about them, they way they view us as some huge threat and seem incapable of understanding simple humour (all humour must be clearly marked as such for k5ers, otherwise they get confused). I'm fed up of them coming over here from their den of Christian prep school seriousness (k5ers remind me of Tom Brown half the time) and making the same boring suggestions and whinges.

Which is why I think iat's idea would work. Every single time someone follows a link from k5 to adequacy, they should be redirected to k5's front page by some elite elby perl script.

One of the reasons we started this site (at least, on of the reasons I got involved) was to get away from all the robotic geeks on all these websites and do our thing, hopefully with a different type of reader. It seems clear to me that we need more UKians on this site (ie people with a highly developed sense of irony and humour) and a fuck load less geeks.

The sooner people understand that the editors don't give a flying fuck about what the readership thinks, and are content to arrogantly steer the site to wherever we want nomatter how much the users whine and moan, the better!

Thank You.

Piss and moan, piss and moan... (5.00 / 3) (#1)
by iat on Fri Sep 28th, 2001 at 09:31:44 AM PST
I agree. We had an influx of pissing and moaning from k5ers the other day, after Perdida mentioned us in her diary there. After posting some crap comments, aforementioned children posted some crap to the queue, which was promptly deleted. I'm not going to give the perpetrators any satisfaction by naming them, but they know who they are.

Let me make something to clear to the pissers and moaners: when you post "this site sucks", we don't give a fuck. Sure, we'll delete your comment, but the "suckingness" of this site is nothing more than an opinion. Not the truth, an opinion. And provided the editors still enjoy what we do, we're going to carry on just the way we are.

Then we get moaners like Keunwoo Lee, founder of the prestigious "Quit Slashdot" campaign. He's using his power as King of The Piss and Moaners to bitch about us on his personal bile site [Go on, click the link! He likes to have things to read in his referrers log]. Apparently, he doesn't like inanity, and Adequacy is too inane for his tastes. But, what Keunwoo hasn't yet realised it that he's only giving us even more publicity and making us even more controversial! Keep up the good work, the editors of The most controversial site on the Internet (TM) appreciate your contribution to our controversy.

In conclusion, piss and moan all you like, just don't make us listen to it. Some of our regular readers came here, piss and moaned for a while, then finally figured out the point of the site and started to relax and enjoy it.

I just complained in my diary the other day that there's not enough pissing and moaning here at adequacy. Now you and bc have taken care of it for me, producing your own little meta-whine. Thanks! I like to think that part of the reason is due to my encouragement.

Keep up the good work!

Aaargh, you tricked us! When we started Adequacy, we made a conscious effort to minimise the amount of meta-commentary, and apart from two user submissions when we first opened, we've done pretty well. So far we've managed to keep most of the meta stuff confined to IRC, but this time it leaked into the diary section. Hopefully, we won't let it spead to the front page.

Is he the Anonymous Reader that Craig McPherson made an absolute fool of repeatedly in the arguments on Linux that were all over the site a while back?

It seems odd that he links to Craig's userinfo, and that is the only reason I can think why.

Dunno about him being King of the Pissers&Moaners though. True, he has a whole site dedicated to being a pisser&moaner, but can he really compare to the likes of Spaceghoti and some others? The title moves with time, they all get bored. It seemed to go from extarbags, who resigned and passed the crown to Spaceghoti, who passed it on to Wiggy for a bit, who is now sadly inactive. I wonder who the next one will be? We have had some pretenders to the throne, but nobody really noteworthy.

He puts up his own site for his personal pissing and moaning. It's his site and he can do what he wants with it, without having to please anyone else, same as the editors of Adequacy can do what they want with their site and not worry about the opinions of anyone (except perhaps the governmental sponsors of the site -- though I doubt that connection can ever be proven). If he came here and discussed Linux, how can anyone fault him? He didn't come here and complain about Adequacy, but stayed on-topic and left his complaints at home.

I spent a subtantial amount of time studying Keunwoo Lee's handiwork, and I have to accord him some respect. He's got a quite heroic air to him. A mythic, larger-than-life persona, I should say. He makes me think of Neal Cassidy or Holden Caufield.

Seriously. Is it just me? I really want to see an Adequacy feature article written by Keunwoo Lee. He has the force-of-nature sort of assurance and passion that makes you want to hear him out. I'm sure he'd write something if you asked him in a decently craven and abashed way. bc, you could do it. Or maybe shoeboy if he were in one of his moods.

Huh? Huh? Come on!

Absolutely, that is his right, and the fact that he's doing his whingeing elsewhere is certainly a blessing. If he wants to proudly announce to the world that he is bitter and jealous about the success that Slashdot has achieved, then that's fine by me. I'm even grateful for the free publicity, he's generated quite a few clickthroughs for us. I'm just amazed that someone can actually be so resentful of Slashdot that he's gone to the trouble of creating that page - most people just stop reading a website when they get sick of it. Mr Lee, on the other hand, goes to the trouble of drawing banners encouraging other people to leave the site.

I really want to see an Adequacy feature article written by Keunwoo Lee.

Yeah, me too. I can picture it now... "Having Fun: Destroying Society through Inanity", "Humour: a Dangerous Mental Illness" or "Recreation: the Threat to our Children". He could write a great article.

If you are trying to prove that adequacy.org is an unworthy site then Craig's comments seem like exactly the wrong ones to link to. Craigs articles about global warming were both interesting and informative. Clearly, Craig McPherson is one of the great minds of our time.

On the other hand, is Keunwoo throwing Craig McPherson a subtle compliment by saying that he didn't fit in at slashdot.org?

I don't know why this site has so many people who dislike Jin Wicked. It seems that you do too. I can't possibly think of any reason why you would do so.

Please be aware that if you criticise Jin again in this insulting way, I will DELETE your account and possibly strip you of editor status. This goes for any other editors too.

And don't try anonoymously harassing her either, I'll be looking out for your IP.

The fact is, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, she is just mediocre looking. Combine that with the bad attitude, poetry and photography, well let's just say I saw more attractive women hanging out in picadilly circus at 3 am on a tuesday after a UK Subs concert.

Post a column of spurious techy questions, 'to be answered by you, the readership'. Then delete the account of anyone who replies.

That'll do it.
