Dummy (5.00 / 1) (#1)

I actually like Dummy, their first album, better than Portishead. But their live album kicks the most ass.

And can we agree that anyone with a voice like that has to be damn hot? I knew we could.

No, we can't (3.00 / 2) (#2)

We can agree with your first sentence completely, but not your second. She's not a dog, but she's definitely not hot, either. Just sort of average looking.

T'was the third sentence that I took issue with. The second is not to be disputed.

against people having a voice like that and not being hot. Bjork, for example, has as really hot voice, and is hot (see cover picture for 'Violently Happy', IIRC). Even if she does have a kid as old as me.

Portishead (3.00 / 2) (#4)

The self-titled one is currently the only that I own as I bought it somewhere around a week ago.

I had been busy this week, and thusly hadn't really got a chance to listen to it all the way through. After doing so, I was properly amazed and astounded.

At some point, rest assured, I'll get the rest of their albums. All two of them. And the fourth when it comes out.

Three years between the first and second studio releases, and 4 years since the last one, plus much rumor of infighting and dissatisfaction amongst members. There may never be a 3rd studio album, although the group still seems to be together, at least in name.

Actually (3.00 / 1) (#6)

On every CD release list I can find, it's scheduled to come out this year despite not having a title of distributor.

I assume that means they've at least worked on it, and perhaps it's even in the latter stages of post-production.

I could be wrong though since I've not really poked around for info on it.

I poked around and apparently in April Portishead hit the studio again in Australia.

Cool. I've never been happier about being wrong ;)

You should check out Bowery Electric's Lushlife as well. Vaguely similar and almost equally as good.

There are many many things I should check out.

Slowly I shall actually get around to them. =)

The cd's like four years old already. Goddamn.

Excuse me while I go rate all your comments down to one--maybe I'll raise them if you've heard Mogwai's kicking a dead pig or anything Brainiac...but probably not.

c'mon, lower.

It's not exactly like Portishead gets a lot of radio play or anything.

I didn't exactly have musically diverse friends back in 1997 either. We're talking "My favorite song is NIN's 'Hurt'." types. I can't conjur the names of good bands out of thin air, or buy everything in the fucking building or anything.

At least I knew I should own OK Computer the second I heard "Paranoid Android".
