weekly copy of diazepam's weekly ioi. this week has been an interesting week at work. watching idiots get promoted and submitting ioi to bosses. what is an ioi, you ask? "items of interest, i had to look it up" quoth the boss. ::sad shake of head::

welcome to adequacy
stay safe, stay sober
this week i've come in late both days, taken off early, watched the dvd of office space during working hours on a multimedia projector, taken 2 hour long lunches and accomplished close to nothing. i've had my share of meetings that end in circle jerks though; thats where i spend all my time.

as soon as work gets out i go visit alprazolam (no, not the adequacy poster, 'alprazolam' is also a nickname for the girlfriend/fiancee/wife/etc contingent). we stay out too late and ingest too many psychoactive chemicals. then we release sexual tension, do more drugs and fall asleep. only to wake up late, go to work unshowered, unshaven and leave early.

it's a vicious cycle.

fuck redemption, fuck salvation man, if we're god's unwanted IT workers... so be it!

I have the world's only intelligent boss (we've actually become quite close friends, we're only a few years apart in age, and almost identical in interests and mannerisms). Meetings less than once a month, status reports consist solely of verbal updates at the local bar, and he actually knows more about this stuff than we do, so any assistance is actually welcome. Unfortunately he's on vacation, so I'm stuck litening to a megalomaniacal teammate (he thinks he's in charge for some strange reason. He ought to get the hint when everybody ignores him. We were all given tasking before the boss-man left.)

As far as coming in late and leaving late, goofing off, long lunches (or any lunches for that matter that consist of something other than pretzel sticks and a drink from the vending machine).... I only wish. With critical deadlines coming up right after the new year, I've actually got more to do than time to do it in. (Very rare occasion) For the last few weeks I've been coming in before 8am and staying in the office till around 10 or 11pm. It could be worse, I'm actually writing new code for a change rather than maintaining sloppy code written by ex-employees, but I can still think of more entertaining ways to spend 14-16 hours of my day.

No 'alprazolam' for me, either. She's out of town until the middle of february, so the only time I'll be able to see her is over the holidays. It's almost like being single again, but I'm too busy with work and holiday shoping (bah) to really enjoy it.

As a child I wanted to know everything. Now I miss my ignorance.

well, i'm in a slightly unique situation. you at least have respect at work. i'm 18 an have been working (at least part-time) at the same place for almost 4 years. basically, i get treated like 'the intern' -- bosses come to me and say "hey, you can make a webpage for our department, right?" instead of "oh shit, the database is down, get somebody in the server room right now!" they pay me like an internt too :)

the behind the counter technicians at best buy make twice as much as i do. my company could swallow the best buy corporation whole.

go figure...

Well (1.00 / 1) (#3)

Glad to see that you are well on your way to working out your difficulties at work and such, seeing as whining on a web log is usually the first step.

Your current state will soon be followed by you sending out some resumes that will be rejected. Next you'll complain about the economy in general on a different web log. Maybe after that there will be some acts of retribution toward your employer, theft of office supplies, destruction of company equipment, sabotage, posting 'there are about to be layoffs' on some stock board. Eventually you'll get fired and have to start all over again at a new dead end job that you'll screw up just as badly as your current one. Enjoy yourself.

not quite. i'm actually quite active in bettering my situation. the posts i write on adequacy are not cardboard tasting mundane drivel, but instead are spiced with the zest of humour and are thereforre about 95% truthful. go die now.

Same deal here, with the assignments and whatnot. Best thing is, though, no drug tests, as many computers for home/office as I want. Hell, the office even paid for my 4-speaker stereo surround sound system w/subwoofer. Oh, and an iPaq too.

We took a Java class and I knew the most of anyone at the end of it. The intranet needed to be erected. i told them to send me to a jsp class but instead the wanted to send me to html class. They could at least take these things a little seriously, but I guess I can't complain. Oh, did I mention that this is all paid for with taxes?

whatever. i'm using their laptops at home to play mp3s on my stereo and pipe visualizations to my big TV. underacheiving and smoking reefer are probably the best things for me right now, because I'm young and need to get it out of my system.

I've got 5 computers, and 2 desks... which is nice, one of them is behind a door locked to employees -- so it's easy to hide from people having technical problems.

damn, if i want to switch jobs -- i have to get a drug test :( damn you !! !! uu!!

at the warped tour, it must have been before White Pony came out. I think that one reviewer said that the record made him want to commit "ritualistic suicide". But they sure kicked an ass when they played.
